Grassley Direct

I spoke with Jim Turbes on KWBG radio in Boone about the Supreme Court, my breakfast with Judge Garland, bipartisanship on the Senate Judiciary Committee and addressing cybersecurity threats.

Q&A: Foster Care

Q. How many kids are in the foster care system in America?
Q. What can Washington do to improve foster care?

Quick Links

  • The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was enacted to increase government transparency, and transparency yields accountability.  But special interests wanted to give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) additional, nearly carte blanche authority to fully exempt certain information from public accountability through FOIA.  That was unacceptable.
  • My 99 county meetings every year are based on the firm belief that to make the process of representative government work, there must be dialogue between those of us elected and the people we represent.
  • Iowan Sarah Root was a victim of President Obama’s reckless and lawless immigration policy. I spoke on the Senate floor about the action I’m taking to prevent these tragedies.
  • Iowa is getting a major wind energy project. I’m grateful for this investment in job creation and committed to clean energy tax policies.
  • The Senate Cystic Fibrosis Caucus is here, thanks in large part to the advocacy of two Iowa families.
  • A report says the Pentagon misled Congress on military sexual assault.  A fellow senator and I are calling for an investigation.
