This week, ahead of the start of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, Senator Romney continued advocating for foreign policy positions that promote America’s interests abroad—including a unified response with our allies toward Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Games amid China’s egregious human rights abuses. The Senator also pressed Administration officials to prioritize another prime concern: our nation’s burgeoning debt, which recently surpassed $30 trillion. Keep scrolling for more news.

China is closely watching our response to Russia's threats in Ukraine—using it as a case study of what they could get away with in Taiwan. A strong, united effort from the U.S and our allies will send a clear warning to authoritarian governments around the world.

Senator Romney joined Washington Post columnist David Ignatius for a wide-ranging discussion about the growing threats from Russia and China, the diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, and the rise of authoritarianism around the world.

Year after year, Washington spends more money than it takes in—a behavior which serves as a precursor to economic calamity. Right now, the economic impacts are being showered on the American people who face historically high rates of inflation.

At a Budget Committee hearing to consider the nomination of Shalanda Young to be Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Senator Romney warned of the economic harm that comes from reckless deficit spending, and pushed the Biden Administration to make the national debt a priority.

This month, we’ll witness the remarkable athleticism of our American athletes competing at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Over the next few weeks, their patriotism, sportsmanship, passion, and determination will stand as inspiration to us all.

Utahns take great pride in having hosted the 2002 Salt Lake City Games and our state has served as a hub for winter sports ever since. In fact, more than one third of Team USA athletes have close ties to Utah!

In addition to introducing a bipartisan resolution honoring Team USA Olympic and Paralympic athletes ahead of the Games, Senator Romney shared a brief video message wishing Team USA the best as they enter competition.

Around the world, militant coups are replacing democratically-elected governments. During a Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Senator Romney questioned the Administration about the role Russia and China are playing in these coups–exploiting nations for their own political and economic advantages. The United States must work with its allies and partners to develop a strategy that supports democracy and fends off the inevitable draw of authoritarianism around the world.

With one of the highest birth rates in the country, Utah families know that financial pressures don’t wait for a new baby to arrive.

Senator Romney joined his colleagues, led by Senator Daines (R-MT), in introducing the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act. This legislation would allow pregnant moms to claim the Child Tax Credit for their unborn children, helping to support families and pregnant mothers with the many costs that come with carrying a child, as well as planning for the care of a newborn baby.
