Putin’s Ukraine invasion is the first time in 80 years that a great power has moved to conquer a sovereign nation. It is without justification, without provocation, and without honor. Putin’s impunity predictably follows our tepid response to his previous horrors in Georgia and Crimea, our naive efforts at a one-sided ‘reset,’ and the shortsightedness of ‘America First.’ The world is a safer place, a more free place, when America is engaged.

I join the world in awe of true heroes: the courageous Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the brave Ukrainian soldiers, the citizen armies, the mothers cradling frightened children, and the journalists risking their lives to bring us truth.

The peril of again looking away from Putin’s tyranny falls not just on the people of the nations he has violated, it falls on America as well. History shows that a tyrant’s appetite for conquest is never satiated. America and our allies must continue, in lock-step, to protect freedom by subjecting Putin and Russia to the harshest economic penalties, by expelling them from global institutions, and by committing ourselves to the expansion and modernization of our national defense.

We must never forget the bravery and horrors that we are witnessing. May God bless the people of Ukraine.

We are witnessing one of the greatest demonstrations of good versus evil in our lifetimes. Putin cowers behind a huge table in a big white room—a mausoleum where honesty and integrity have gone to die. Contrast that with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is demonstrating remarkable courage, passion, and true leadership. The bravery of him and the Ukrainian people has galvanized the spirit of freedom around the world.

Senator Romney joined Dana Bash on CNN’s State of the Union to discuss the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Although President Biden has successfully brought together our friends and allies to coordinate a unified and powerful response to Putin’s actions in Ukraine, he has faltered in delivering an effective agenda for the American people. During his State of the Union address, the President failed to promote adequate solutions to combat inflation, secure our energy resources, and address the rising threat from China.

Senator Romney shared his response to President Biden’s State of the Union address in a video message.

During his State of the Union address, President Biden reiterated his request for additional funding for the COVID-19 response. But before Congress could even consider supporting additional funding, it must receive a full accounting of how the federal government has allocated trillions of dollars in taxpayer funds spent to combat the pandemic.

Senator Romney led 35 of his Senate Republican colleagues in requesting this full accounting because it's not yet clear why additional funding is needed. We must be good stewards of taxpayer dollars.

A coordinated response with our allies is critical to effectively counter nefarious, autocratic regimes like Russia and China. Senator Romney met with Jane Hartley, nominee to be U.S. Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland, to discuss ways to further strengthen our relationships with our allies.

The Utah National Guard exemplifies Utah's spirit and tradition of service. Senator Romney sat down with Maj. Gen. Michael J. Turley, Brig. Gen. Tyler Smith, and CW5 Bryan Searcy to discuss their priorities for the coming year and how Congress can better support their mission.

Droughts and wildfires are becoming a greater concern for energy production in Utah. Utah’s credit unions play an important role in supporting our state’s rapidly growing economy.
