Putin is trying to reestablish the old boundaries of the Soviet Union by bringing more nations under his control. It's unacceptable. The only thing Putin will understand is strength, and we have to be willing show the kind of strength necessary to change his calculus, allow Ukraine to defend itself, and bring an end to this brutal, unjustified war against Ukraine and its people.
President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian forces know what's best for their own war. They know the conditions on the ground. Instead of deciding what we think is the most effective for them, we should honor their request for aircraft immediately.
At a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Senator Romney urged the Administration to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine without further delay.

Senator Romney also joined Senator Ernst (R-IA) in leading a group of 40 of their colleagues in calling on the Administration to work with Poland and NATO allies to expedite the transfer of aircraft and air defense systems to Ukraine. It would be unacceptable to purchase more oil from some of our most awful adversaries like Iran or Venezuela—countries with authoritarian regimes who are in bed with Putin—especially before furthering our own energy development domestically.
Senator Romney joined a briefing hosted by the Salt Lake Chamber on the war Russia is waging on Ukraine and urged the Administration to ramp up our energy production here at home.

Senator Romney released the following statement after voting against the 2,700-page, $1.5 trillion omnibus appropriations bill for fiscal year 2022:
“We have got to end the absurd process of jamming through last-minute, trillion dollar, thousand-page spending bills without meaningful input from more than a handful of members. Forcing us to swallow the bad to get the good is concerning, unsustainable, and no way to govern over the long-term. While I strongly support providing Ukrainians desperately needed aid, I ultimately could not support the rest of this bloated spending bill for the aforementioned reasons.”
Utah is home to thousands of refugees, who each make significant and important contributions to our state. Senator Romney met a group of exemplary students from The University of Utah with refugee backgrounds who were visiting Washington, D.C.
Banks are facing great uncertainty amid record inflation and geopolitical tensions. Senator Romney met with members from the Utah Bankers Association to discuss ways to support our financial institutions as they navigate these challenges to guarantee their services for families and businesses.
