A recent news report suggests that the FBI failed to notify many Americans that they were being targeted by ISIS. These alleged failures are alarming. I’m seeking a thorough explanation of the FBI’s policies surrounding ISIS kill lists of American citizens. 

I have heard from producers that confusion exists between the Risk Management Agency at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and crop insurance companies regarding policies for over-seeding cover crops. I’m asking the Agriculture Department to clarify these policies to ensure that farmers are not inadvertently deterred from using cover crops to improve their soil and the environment. 

We need to make sure that government at all levels is working to spread the word on the financial exploitation of older Americans. As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I recently led a hearing to set the groundwork for bipartisan legislation to protect older Americans from financial exploitation and impose tougher penalties for scammers who target them. Two Iowans testified.  

A more transparent government leads to a more accountable government, but too often, agencies block access to public records of the government’s work. This week, a bill I led through the Judiciary Committee to improve access to government records was signed into law. This is an important step toward a more accountable government. 

Too many Americans have fallen victim to the devastating impact of lax immigration enforcement. I recently convened a hearing to examine oversight within the Department of Homeland Security and joined three other senators in introducing Sarah’s Law to correct the shortcomings of this administration’s immigration enforcement priorities.
