Senator Romney shared the following statement in honor of our military fallen on Memorial Day:

“The bounty of life is ours thanks to the men and women who won our freedom, who protected us from oppressors, and who have defended our nation from threats here and abroad. On Memorial Day, we remember their sacrifice and honor it by reverencing our freedoms.”

Senator Romney also joined Governor Cox and the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs for a Memorial Day ceremony at the State Capitol, where he delivered remarks honoring our fallen servicemembers. Utah lost two servicemembers this past year: Staff Sergeants Taylor Hoover and Lincoln Olmsted.

Americans across the country are strapped with skyrocketing prescription drug costs, making it increasingly difficult to get the medicine they need. Senator Romney joined Senator Rosen (D-NV) in introducing the Advancing Affordable Medicines for Families Act, bipartisan legislation that directs the government to study the impact that nonprofit generic drug companies, like Utah’s Civica Rx, would have on lowering drug costs, addressing drug shortages, and accelerating the development of new drugs.

With two-thirds of Utah held as public land, a fully-funded Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program helps our rural counties be able to provide essential services such as law enforcement, education, search and rescue, road maintenance, and public health to their residents and visitors. Senator Romney joined his colleagues in urging the Appropriations Committee to fully fund the PILT program for fiscal year 2023.

For more than 45 years, the Hyde Amendment and other longstanding pro-life protections have ensured that taxpayer dollars are not used to fund abortions, saving the lives of nearly 2.5 million unborn children. Senator Romney joined 47 of his pro-life colleagues in sending a message to Democratic Leader Schumer pledging that they will vote to block any bill that would undermine Hyde Amendment protections.

After years of negotiations, leaders from the federal government, Utah, and the Navajo Nation finally enacted an agreement that will provide the Navajos of Utah with running water. The Navajo Utah Water Rights Settlement Act, introduced by Senator Romney, was authorized by Congress in 2020 and then fully funded by the bipartisan infrastructure bill negotiated by Romney and his colleagues.

Senator Romney joined federal, state, and Navajo leaders for the ceremonial signing of the agreement.

Walling off a sizable majority of our country's research institutions from receiving approved funding would fundamentally reduce our scientific capacity. With the U.S. facing tougher economic competition from countries like China, Senator Romney led a bipartisan letter to his colleagues who are negotiating Congress’s China competition bill urging them to prioritize the expansion of our research enterprises, development of new technologies, and fostering scientific talent in the final bill.
