After months of bipartisan negotiations, Senator Romney and his colleagues introduced two pieces of legislation to reform and modernize the outdated Electoral Count Act of 1887 to ensure that the electoral votes tallied by Congress accurately reflect each state’s vote for President. Senator Romney joined his colleagues in releasing a joint statement after introducing these bills:

“From the beginning, our bipartisan group has shared a vision of drafting legislation to fix the flaws of the archaic and ambiguous Electoral Count Act of 1887. Through numerous meetings and debates among our colleagues, as well as conversations with a wide variety of election experts and legal scholars, we have developed legislation that establishes clear guidelines for our system of certifying and counting electoral votes for President and Vice President. We urge our colleagues in both parties to support these simple, commonsense reforms.”

Recovering endangered fish species in the Upper Colorado and San Juan Rivers will help maintain an overall healthy river ecosystem that benefits both people and nature. Senator Romney and Hickenlooper’s (D-CO) Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins Recovery Act passed out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

This bipartisan legislation would continue protecting four threatened and endangered native fish species in the Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins by extending conservation programs for one year to allow Upper Basin communities the time to develop a long-term management plan. The bill next heads to a vote on the Senate floor.
