Sen. Rick Scott Introduces Affordable Coronavirus Testing Act
Senators Rick Scott and Martha McSally introduced the Affordable Coronavirus Testing Act to make sure all Americans have access to affordable COVID-19 tests, that antibody tests are covered by insurance, and that testing information is efficiently shared among health care providers and public health officials. The Affordable Coronavirus Testing Act follows reports that insurance companies are using loopholes in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to deny or restrict coverage for COVID-19 testing.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Widespread coronavirus testing is one of the best ways we can fight this virus and get our economy re-opened. Reports that some health insurers are limiting or denying coronavirus testing coverage are unacceptable and dangerous, and my Affordable Coronavirus Testing Act will make sure every American has access to affordable coronavirus detection and antibody tests when they need them." Sen. Rick Scott Statement on PPP Loans
Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after the Treasury Department and Small Business Administration (SBA) released the names of companies that received loans of $150,000 or more through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The data shows loans went to a range of businesses and organizations, including lobbying firms, law firms and high-dollar hedge funds, political groups, including the Florida Democratic Party, private schools, news organizations and big restaurant chains, as well as a chain of luxury restaurants and boutique hotels co-owned by Robert De Niro.
Senator Rick Scott said, “The Paycheck Protection Program has helped so many businesses in Florida and across the nation stay afloat during this unimaginable time, but for months, I’ve called for reforms to the program to make sure taxpayer money goes to those who truly need it. I sounded the alarm about businesses with thousands of employees finding loopholes to qualify for these loans meant for small businesses. I was also concerned about companies that were seeing no downturn in their business taking money meant for those suffering during the pandemic. Now, we can clearly see the abuse. Businesses and organizations that didn’t need taxpayer money took it simply because they could.
"Just last week, I proposed an amendment to the PPP program to make sure that these loans only go to businesses that show a substantial reduction in revenue due to the coronavirus. Common sense, right? Not to my Democrat colleagues who rejected it. Too many in Washington believe that government waste is inevitable - it’s just the cost of doing business. I don’t accept that. This is taxpayer money, and we can’t afford to waste it. We can’t allow a government bailout of huge corporations and we can’t accept that taxpayer money is going to businesses that haven’t been hurt by this crisis. We have to step up and fight for reform and to make sure those individuals and small businesses hurt by the coronavirus are getting the help they need. I am also calling on the Treasury Department and SBA to release the full list of PPP loan recipients so we can see exactly where taxpayer money is going." Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Leads Colleagues in Introducing the Unnecessary Agency Regulations Reduction Act
Senators Rick Scott, Tom Cotton, Steve Daines, Mike Enzi, Josh Hawley, Kelly Loeffler, David Perdue and Thom Tillis introduced the Unnecessary Agency Regulations Reduction Act to reduce burdensome government regulations and create more efficiency by modifying, consolidating, or repealing outdated, duplicative or unnecessary agency regulations.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Throughout my time as Governor of Florida, we cut more than 5,200 burdensome regulations to get government out of the way so businesses could succeed. Our focus on reducing taxes and cutting regulations meant more than 1.7 million new jobs were created in our state. The Unnecessary Regulations Reduction Act helps bring Florida’s success to Washington by creating more efficiency in the federal government. Sen. Rick Scott: WHO’s Response is Another Failure to Take Accountability for their Inaction and Lies
Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following a letter he received from Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). The letter came in response to a request by Senator Scott and his colleagues for information regarding the WHO’s failed and delayed response to the coronavirus.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Throughout this pandemic, the WHO has served as a puppet for the Chinese Communist Party. Instead of exposing Communist China’s deceit to the global community, the World Health Organization praised their response and was complicit in China’s cover-up. Our request for information gave the WHO an opportunity to admit their failures, and present a path forward. They chose instead to peddle their false narrative with more misinformation and lies. My colleagues and I requested detailed records of the WHO’s dealings with Communist China, as well as if any members of their leadership received outside compensation, and the WHO refused to provide this information.
"I’ve long called for accountability for the WHO, which is clearly not qualified to handle a global health crisis. The President was right withdraw the U.S. from the WHO, which has proven to be a dangerous organization that doesn’t have America’s best interest in mind." Read more HERE.
