This week, Senator Rick Scott worked to protect Americans and spur economic growth by proposing a number of amendments to the coronavirus relief package, including tax cuts to save families and job creators more than $320 billion.

Senator Scott also spoke on the Senate Floor about how Congress’ blatant disregard for fiscal responsibility is failing the American people and threatening our nation’s ability to survive and thrive. As long he’s a member of the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott will fight to rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending that is putting the next generation of Americans’ future at risk.

Sen. Rick Scott Proposes Amendments to Coronavirus Relief Package to Protect American Families and Grow the Economy

Senator Rick Scott proposed a number of amendments to the coronavirus relief package to protect Americans and spur economic growth, including tax cuts to save families and job creators more than $320 billion.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have made it clear that they don’t care about getting something done to help the American people. They want to spend more than $3 trillion in taxpayer money on their liberal priorities that have nothing to do with the coronavirus. That’s wrong. We have to make sure we are protecting Americans and supporting families during this crisis.

"The best way to help people right now is to get the economy re-opened, support businesses by cutting taxes and regulations, protect Americans from the threat of Communist China, and ensure there is ample testing and Personal Protective Equipment across the country. That’s my focus and that should be the focus of everyone in Congress right now.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Leads Colleagues in Urging an Investigation into the Threat of Chinese-Manufactured Drones

Senators Rick Scott led Senators Richard Blumenthal, Marco Rubio, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton, Marsha Blackburn and Martha McSally in a letter to U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross urging the Department to examine the impact that importing Chinese-made drones may have on national security. Senator Scott and colleagues have also introduced the American Security Drone Act to prohibit the U.S. Government from purchasing drones manufactured in countries identified as national security threats, like Iran and China. Sen. Rick Scott Applauds Senate Passage of Bill with Senator Hawley to Ban TikTok on Government Devices

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the Senate’s unanimous passage of his and Senator Josh Hawley’s bill to ban all federal employees from using TikTok on government devices. Several government agencies have already banned TikTok on federal government devices due to cybersecurity concerns and possible spying by the Communist Chinese government. The Administration also recently announced it is considering a ban on Chinese social media apps,

Senator Rick Scott said, “Today, the U.S. Senate sent a powerful message to all companies controlled by the Communist Party of China. Companies like TikTok, under the control of Communist China, are obligated to spy, steal user data and censor any content the government wishes. We’ve watched the Communist Party of China use drones to spy on our citizens, now they are using apps like TikTok to surveil us. We must protect all Americans from this risk. I’m glad the Senate agreed to pass my bill with Senator Hawley today to ban this app on government devices, eliminating a threat to U.S. networks and to national security." Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Requests Meeting with IOC President Bach on Moving 2022 Olympic Games Out of Communist China

Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach requesting a meeting prior to the IOC Executive Board meeting in October to discuss his call for the IOC to stand up for freedom and urge Communist China to stop violating human rights, or find a new home for the 2022 Olympic Games. For nearly a year, Senator Scott has been urging the Committee to reconsider its decision to host the 2022 Winter Olympics in Communist China as General Secretary Xi Jinping commits genocide against the Uyghurs in Xinjiang and restricts the human rights of Hong Kongers. Sen. Rick Scott in Fox Business: Stop Laundering Coronavirus Relief Money Through Inefficient Government Agencies and Give it Back to Taxpayers

Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for Fox Business on how Congress should stop laundering taxpayer money intended for coronavirus relief through inefficient federal agencies or state governments. Instead, the best way to help Americans is to give them their money back through tax cuts.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “Here’s a novel idea as we discuss the latest phase of Congress’s COVID-19 response: rather than launder taxpayer money through inefficient and wasteful federal agencies or state governments with no concern for fiscal responsibility, let’s just give taxpayers their money back.

Think about it this way: even if you assume the high-end estimates for total Americans unemployed (40 million) and you remove the Paycheck Protection Program funding that kept workers on payrolls, the total spent by Congress to respond to this pandemic and help workers amounts to $57,000 per unemployed American.

Now, do you believe that every unemployed American – or any unemployed American – has received anything close to $57,000? Of course not, because the money Congress spent has been laundered through myriad federal agencies, state and local governments, and new entitlement programs with bureaucracies to go along with them.

Every dollar spent by Congress seems to be spent in the least efficient way possible. Why would we keep doing this?

… And remember, Republicans and Democrats are negotiating a new spending bill of at least $1 trillion more without a full reporting or even understanding on if or how the $3 trillion already allocated has been spent. In fact, we know that some programs are still sitting on millions or even billions of dollars in unspent cash.

Washington has gone off the rails.

If we want to inject capital into the economy right now and boost liquidity for businesses and consumers, let’s do it in the most efficient way possible: give taxpayers their money back.…"
