February 17 – February 24, 2023

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. As the war has unfolded, Ukraine’s remarkable resilience against Putin’s attacks has rallied support from free nations around the world who are committed to defending freedom and opposing the rise of authoritarianism. Senator Romney affirmed his resolute support in aiding Ukraine’s war effort, as it is critical to supporting America’s own national security.

Back home this week, Senator Romney met with several Utah government and business leaders—including members of the state legislature—to discuss progress on key priorities for the Beehive State, including addressing the drought and wildfires; supporting Ukraine; countering the China threat; and building up our infrastructure. Senator Romney shared the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion in Ukraine:

“Ukraine proudly stands a sovereign nation one year since the start of Russia’s war, much to the humiliation of Putin and his failed expectation of an easy victory. The energy, passion, and grit exhibited by Ukrainians—and the remarkable leadership from President Zelenskyy—has united the free world to affirm our support for liberty and reject the evils of tyranny. We continue to stand with Ukraine. Their victory is our victory.”

It is in America’s interest to support Ukraine. If Russia can invade, subjugate, and pillage Ukraine with impunity, it will do the same again to others, and a world at war diminishes the security of Americans. Prior to the anniversary, Romney reiterated that it is in the United States’ own best interests to support Ukraine amid Russia’s aggression.
