Dear
Friend,
It
has
been
another
busy
week
in
Washington.
I've
been
focusing
on
my
North
Korea
sanctions
legislation,
and
on
keeping
Coloradans
safe
by
strongly
opposing
any
plan
to
transfer
Guantanamo
detainees
to
Colorado.

Senate
Foreign
Relations
Hearing
on
North
Korea
At
this
week's
Foreign
Relations
Committee
hearing,
I
asked
a
representative
from
the
State
Department
about
our
policy
towards
North
Korea.
I
don't
think
we're
doing
enough
to
deter
their
nuclear
development
or
hold
the
regime
accountable
for
its
atrocious
record
on
human
rights. Please
take
a
moment
to
watch
the
exchange here.
Meeting
with
Japanese
Deputy
Prime
Minister
Taro
Aso
I
had
the
opportunity
to
meet
with
Japanese
Deputy
Prime
Minister
Taro
Aso
and
a
group
of
legislators
from
the
Japanese
Parliament,
known
as
the
Diet.
We
discussed
the
critical
importance
of
the
U.S.-Japan
alliance
and
how
we
can
work
to
strengthen
it.
The
Department
of
Interior's
Investigation
into
the
Gold
King
Mine
Spill
I
appreciate
the
Department
of
Interior's
investigation
into
the
Animas
River
spill,
and
I
look
forward
to
closely
reviewing
it.
Based
on
an
initial
review
of
the
report,
I
am
deeply
troubled
that
not
only
EPA's
actions
at
the
Gold
King
Mine
caused
the
blowout
on
August
5,
2012,
which
led
to
the
release
of
approximately
three
million
gallons
of
contaminated
water
into
Cement
Creek
and
the
Animas
River,
but
that
this
disaster
could
have
been
prevented.
I
fully
expect
accountability
and
transparency
from
the
EPA,
and
I
look
forward
to
a
response
to
my
questions
surrounding
the
EPAs
insufficient
and
untimely
recovery
efforts
and
its
proactive
measures
to
prevent
a
disaster
of
similar
magnitude
in
the
future.
