Good
afternoon
folks
-
In
the
spirit
of
Valentine's
Day
this
month,
I
thought
I'd
share
with
you
something
the
federal
government
loves
to
do:
spend.
The
federal
government
loves
spending
so
much
that
our
national
debt
is
about
to
hit
$20
trillion.
You
read
that
right:
20.
trillion.
dollars.
While
that may
not
be
a
lot
to
Washington
bureaucrats, it sure
is to
us
here
in
Iowa.
That's
why
each
month,
I
give
out
the
Squeal
Award to
highlight
areas
of
federal
government
waste, fraud,
and
abuse that
must
be
cut.
Squeal
Award:
Taxpayer
Funded
Speed
Dating
Looking
for love wasteful
spending?
Then
look
no
further
than
the
National
Science
Foundation
(NSF).
In
2013,
the
NSF
helped
to
fund
a
Stanford
University
study
that
took
a
look
at
how
speed
dating
can
help
determine
what
makes
up
a
perfect
first
date
and
it
came
with
a
pricey
bill,
totaling
$2.5
million
in
taxpayer
dollars!
While
the
NSF
may
try
to
justify
handing
over
millions
of
taxpayer
dollars
to
Stanford
University
for
this
"romance
research",
we
aren't
buying
their
pick-up
line
at
a
time
when
every
Iowan’s
share
of
the
national
debt
exceeds
$61,000.
As
they
say,
money
can't
buy
love
especially
when
the
government
is
using your
taxpayer
dollars.
Because
of
this
wasteful
spending,
I
hereby
present the National
Science
Foundation’s
study with
this
month’s Squeal
Award.
Do
you
have
an
example
of
government
waste
or
inefficiencies
that
I
should
take
a
look
at?
