Remembering Iowa's Finest

This week we lost two members of Iowa's committed law enforcement community. Please keep their families, fellow officers and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers. Every day, our law enforcement officers go to work to keep us safe. No matter the circumstances, they answer the call in our communities across Iowa. Let's do our best to honor their dedication and commemorate the loss of these two who served and protected Iowa.

Grassley Direct

spoke with Steve Woodhouse of the Knoxville Journal Express and Nathan Konz of Carroll Broadcasting about judicial nominations, the tragic death of two Iowa police officers and my record of bipartisanship in the United States Senate.

Q&A: Veterans Day

Q. What does your office do to serve veterans?

Q. Do you have an update on the case of a deceased veteran for whom you joined Sen. Joni Ernst and called upon the Secretary of the VA for answers regarding his death?

We know the price increase for EpiPens is hitting individual consumers and Medicare and Medicaid. It’s important to get a handle on the effects of the price increases on members of the military, veterans, and agency budgets for prescription drug spending. I wrote to both the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs amid findings that certain components of the Defense Department pay more for EpiPens than others.

This week I requested that the Department of Justice Inspector General explore whether the histories of officials investigating Hillary Clinton's unauthorized use of a private email server and potential mishandling of classified material compromised public trust. The American people deserve to know whether political considerations have improperly affected the handling of this inquiry and understand why key officials failed to recuse themselves to protect the public’s confidence in a fair and impartial inquiry.

I'm continuing to put pressure on antitrust regulators scrutinizing the proposed mergers and acquisitions in the agrochemical and seed industries. I sent a letter this week to the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice about the Bayer-Monsanto deal. I have concerns that the potential effects of these deals could be increased seed and chemical prices for farmers. Those increased prices on farmers could also mean increased food prices for all Americans.

Numerous media reports indicate that an ongoing surge of illegal immigration at the Southwest border is a large-scale effort to enter the United States before this year’s presidential election. Tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors and family units from Central America continue to pour across the border. I wrote a letter with colleagues from the Senate and House Judiciary Committees calling on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to take immediate action to stop the surge and brief lawmakers on the department's efforts.
