Sen. Rick Scott Applauds President Trump’s Commitment to Keep Oil Drilling Off Florida’s Gulf Coast

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement applauding President Trump’s decision to extend the moratorium on oil drilling off Florida’s Gulf Coast for another 10 years.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As Governor of Florida, I fought for and secured a commitment from this Administration to keep oil drilling off Florida’s coasts. I’ve had many conversations with the President and his Administration about the importance of keeping Florida’s coastlines pristine, and I’m glad the President is extending the moratorium on oil drilling for another 10 years. I applaud this announcement, which is a result of the many conversations we have had over the years and is a huge win for Florida." Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Statement on Senate Democrats Blocking Debate on Targeted COVID-19 Relief Bill

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following Senate Democrats’ decision to block the COVID-19 relief package, which provides targeted support to individuals and businesses struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Senate Republicans have been focused on getting help to individuals and small businesses that are struggling. We can accomplish this goal without bankrupting our country. The package negotiated and supported by Senate Republicans does just that. I worked hard to make sure the bill gets help to those who need it, while maintaining a fiscally responsible path. In particular, the bill repurposes hundreds of billions of dollars of unspent money from the CARES Act and makes sure we don’t use Florida taxpayer dollars to bail out fiscally irresponsible states like New York, California and Illinois.

“Unfortunately, Senate Democrats blocked even consideration of this bill. Their strategy is clear. They believe that passing nothing benefits them politically and they’re determined to stop any relief from moving forward. It’s shameful, but what we’ve come to expect from Senator Schumer and Speaker Pelosi." Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: I’m Disappointed IOC Vice President Refused to Commit to Move 2022 Olympic Games Out of Communist China

Senator Rick Scott spoke with Anita DeFrantz, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice President, to discuss his call for the IOC to stand up for freedom and urge Communist China to stop violating human rights, or find a new home for the 2022 Olympic Games. During the call, Anita DeFrantz would not commit to reconsider the IOC’s decision to host the 2022 Winter Olympics in Communist China, even as General Secretary Xi Jinping commits genocide against the Uyghurs in Xinjiang and restricts the human rights of Hong Kongers.

Senator Rick Scott said, “For nearly a year, I’ve been calling on the IOC to put human rights first, stand against the genocide of the Uyghurs and the political oppression of Hong Kongers, and refuse to reward the Communist Party of China with the 2022 Games. This is also about the safety of all athletes and attendees. I am disappointed that the IOC would not commit to moving the 2022 Games out of Communist China, but this fight is not over. The IOC has to decide whether the Olympics stands for freedom or stands with Communist China and their human rights abuses." Read more HERE.
