Dear
Friend,
FAA
Reauthorization
This
week,
the
Senate
continued
debating
the
Federal
Aviation
Administration
Reauthorization
Act.
I
recently announced many
Colorado
priorities
that
I
pushed
for
that
were
included
in
the
legislation
and
spoke
about
them
on
the
floor.

Helping
Our
Veterans
This
week,
I
supported
the
Veterans
Choice
Improvement
Act,
a
bill
that
addresses
the
systemic
issues
plaguing
the
Veteran’s
Choice
Program. This
legislation
makes
the
Choice
Program
permanent,
ensures
it
is
funded
in
advance,
and
consolidates
the
litany
of
existing
programs.
The
legislation
also
encourages
non-VA
providers
to
participate
in
the
program
by
instituting
a
new
claims
processing
system
to ensure
medical
providers
are
properly
reimbursed
in
a
timely
manner.
Congress
passed
the
Choice
Program
with
the
goal
of
fixing
the
broken
system
and
improving
veterans’
access
to
care.
Unfortunately,
the
agency’s
mismanagement
of
this
program
has
led
to
denial
of
care
or
delayed
care
for
many
Colorado
veterans.
I
have
repeatedly
called
on
the
VA
to
address
the
Choice
Program’s
poor
implementation,
and
the
Veterans
Choice
Improvement
Act
aims
to
solve
the
problems
facing
the
VA
by
consolidating
confusing
programs,
resolving
claims
processing
issues,
and
allowing
veterans
to
see
their
local
providers.
I
will
continue
to
work
with
my
colleagues
to
hold
the
VA
accountable
and
find
solutions
that
will
provide
veterans
with
the
health
care
they
need
and
deserve.
Promoting
a
Stronger,
Safer
America
Earlier
this
week,
I
spoke
with
Admiral
Gortney,
Commander
of
U.S.
Northern
Command
(NORTHCOM)
and
North
American
Aerospace
Defense
Command
(NORAD),
headquartered
at
Peterson
Air
Force
Base
in
Colorado
Springs.
Since
NORTHCOM’s
establishment
in
2002,
it
has
performed
its
homeland
defense
mission
with
distinction
and
I
expressed
to
Admiral
Gortney
my
full
support
for
NORTHCOM
and
its
critical
mission
at
Peterson
AFB. We
discussed
various
threats
our
country
faces,
including
ISIS,
North
Korea,
and
China’s
provocative
actions
in
the
South
China
Sea.
I
always
appreciate
Admiral
Gortney
sharing
his
vast
knowledge
and
thank
him
for
his
many
years
of
service
to
our
great
nation.
I
will
continue
to
support
policies
that
promote
a
safer,
stronger
America.
