Sen. Rick Scott Statement on Senate Democrats Blocking COVID-19 Relief AGAIN

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following another vote by Senate Democrats to block the COVID-19 relief package, which provides targeted support to individuals and businesses struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Senator Rick Scott said, “For months, Senate Republicans have presented real solutions to immediately get help to individuals and small businesses that are hurting. Our bill is the only option that can pass right now and it’s the only option that provides help without bankrupting our nation. But the Democrats continue to argue that doing nothing is better than something. If it’s not about their liberal priorities that have nothing to do with the coronavirus, then the Democrats refuse to help. That’s shameful and a slap in the face to so many Americans affected by this pandemic.” Read more HERE.

Senator Rick Scott, Senator Marco Rubio and Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Rejecting the Upcoming Fraudulent Legislative Elections in Venezuela

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Marco Rubio and colleagues in introducing a bipartisan resolution condemning the Maduro regime’s ongoing efforts to hold fraudulent legislative elections scheduled for this December. The resolution also recognizes that, according to the Venezuelan constitution, and as President of the National Assembly, Interim President Juan Guaidó serves as the nation’s legitimate leader in the absence of a democratically elected president of Venezuela.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As we continue to fight for free and fair elections in Latin America and around the world, we must recognize Maduro’s sham election as a pathetic attempt by the regime to create the false appearance of democracy. This is nothing more than a stunt designed to further oppress the Venezuelan people. The United States, and freedom-loving countries around the world, must denounce Maduro’s desperate attempts to cling power, and continue to stand with the people of Venezuela." Read more from Senator Rubio’s office HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: Democrats’ Temper Tantrum Won’t Stop Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Nomination to Supreme Court

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the Judiciary Committee’s vote to favorably report to the Senate floor the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Judge Amy Coney Barrett has proven she is a nominee of indisputable credentials and qualifications. The Democrats can’t attack Judge Barrett on her merits, so they are refusing to show up and engage in this process. Today’s temper tantrum was an embarrassment that shows just how little the Democrats care about doing their job. This is all about the election to them. It’s pathetic – but what we’ve come to expect. Whether they come to the table or not, we will confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.”  Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott in Sun Sentinel: Appeasement Doesn’t Work; Stand up to Cuba

Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for the Sun Sentinel on how the appeasement policies of the Obama/ Biden administration did nothing to help the fight for freedom and democracy in Cuba and throughout Latin America. Senator Scott is focused on securing a stronger and more vibrant Latin America – with the understanding that ending the Cuban dictatorship will lead to greater stability and freedom for the entire region.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “For years, the United States, a country founded on freedom and liberty for all, turned a blind eye to what is happening right here in our hemisphere. We had career politicians like Joe Biden, who defend the Cuban regime and supported policies that provide a financial windfall to Cuba to support their crimes. Just last week during a campaign stop in Miami, Biden criticized the Trump administration’s Cuba policy and tried to rewrite history by saying, ‘For my entire career, I stood for democracy and human rights, for freedom of the press, assembly and religion against dictators of the left and the right.'

Politicians like Joe Biden have stalled the fight for freedom in Latin America. Obama’s appeasement did nothing to help the Cuban people. They were just as oppressed as always, but the Cuban regime profited more from Americans. Contrast that with the Trump administration, which is standing up to murderous regimes around the world. President Trump has imposed significant sanctions on the Maduro regime, and the administration has recognized that the root of the instability and chaos we see in Latin America stems from Cuba. They are taking action against Cuba, which is the most powerful force behind the Maduro regime in Venezuela, largely because of the free oil they receive in return. President Trump is taking historic steps and rolling back the appeasements and Obama-era policies that allowed the regime to profit from Americans.

…. It is time for the international community to recognize Cuba for what it is. And it’s time for the American people to stand against elected officials who choose appeasement over sanctions. Appeasement doesn’t work. The growing instability in Latin America is evidence of the failure of appeasement. Claiming to support freedom for Venezuela while also supporting appeasement in Cuba is the height of hypocrisy.

As a nation, we must stand united in the principles our country was founded on — freedom and democracy for all. We must stand against candidates like Joe Biden that choose appeasement over sanctions.

The security of our hemisphere and our identity as a country depends on it."
