1 BIG THING: SUPPORTING THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE IN THEIR FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY
What’s happening: The Ukrainian people have shown that they will lay down their lives for democracy. They’ve won battle after battle, but now, they are out of bullets.
What I believe: America must lead the world at this critical moment for democracy and Ukraine – because their fight is our fight. Putin is reading our newspapers, looking at our social media, and counting on Congress' dysfunction to win this war.
What I’m doing: For months, I’ve urged my colleagues to support Ukraine in their fight against Putin. This is a moment when our resolve as a nation is being tested and we cannot afford to fail. I’m in Washington this weekend working to pass a bipartisan bill that will send military and economic aid to Ukraine. I won’t leave here until our work is done.
2. PROTECTING COMMUNITIES’ WATER SUPPLIES AFTER WILDFIRES
What happened: After the East Troublesome and Cameron Peak fires, Northern Colorado water providers faced unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles as they worked to protect downstream communities’ drinking water supply.
What I’m doing: That’s why this week, I brought together bipartisan lawmakers from Colorado and Utah to introduce a bill that will cut red tape and make it easier for communities in Colorado to protect their water supply after disasters.
3. ENSURING EVERY AMERICAN HAS ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER
What’s going on: In the wealthiest country in the world, no family should have to raise their kids without clean water. Yet today, only half of families in Tribal communities have access to safe drinking water – a direct result of the federal government's failure to honor its promises to Tribes.
What I’ve fought for: I fought to include $4.5 billion in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to address some of these challenges, but more assistance is needed. I introduced a bill to help Tribes access this money to build or repair clean water infrastructure in their communities.
This week: I joined Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Chairman Manuel Heart to urge the U.S. Senate Indian Affairs Committee to pass my bill and take an important step to live up to our country’s responsibility to its Tribal communities.
