1 BIG THING: SECURING INFRASTRUCTURE AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS FOR COLORADO
Listening to Colorado: As we work on the federal budget, members of Congress can request funding for specific projects through the Congressionally Directed Spending process. That’s why I sat down with municipalities, nonprofits, and leaders across the state to hear directly about the challenges their communities face, and how I can help.
Good news: I’m pleased that I helped secure over $91 million for 78 Colorado projects in the first round of this process. This funding will support infrastructure and community investments across thirty counties from Alamosa to Routt to Gunnison to Mesa to Denver.
2. STANDING WITH VETERANS IN SUPPORT OF UKRAINE
Joining my colleagues to call on Speaker Johnson to Bring Ukraine aid to the House floor
What’s at stake: The Ukrainian people are in a fight not just for themselves, but for democracy and the free world. They are out of bullets and need our support – yet the House of Representatives refuses to take action.
What I’m doing: This week, I joined veterans and my colleagues from the House and Senate to call on the House to bring Ukraine aid to the floor for a vote. We must get this done – there is too much at stake.
3. FIGHTING FOR COLORADO KIDS
What happened: In his State of the Union address and annual budget, President Biden urged Congress to restore the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) that we passed as part of the American Rescue Plan Act. It cut child poverty in half and was the most effective tax break for families in generations.
What’s next: The House already passed a bipartisan, bicameral tax package to expand the CTC. The legislation would help about 16 million kids nationwide, including 200,000 kids in Colorado. Now, I’m pushing the Senate to act.
What I believe: I agree with President Biden that we must restore this critical lifeline for families. I’ll never stop fighting to make the expanded CTC permanent. This week, I joined National Public Radio’s Morning Edition to discuss the importance of this tax credit for American families.
