1 BIG THING: IMPROVING LIVESTOCK SUSTAINABILITY

Image

What’s happening: Methane emissions contribute to climate change, threatening Colorado’s economy, health, and way of life. The agriculture sector is the second largest source of these harmful emissions.

What I believe: As Colorado takes important steps to limit greenhouse gas emissions like methane, our state’s family farmers and ranchers must be at the center of that effort.

What I did: This week, I introduced legislation to help Colorado’s dairy and livestock producers voluntarily reduce methane emissions from their livestock, expand research into these tools, and make farms and ranches more sustainable.

2. CELEBRATING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

Image

This month: March is Women’s History Month, an opportunity to celebrate the countless contributions of women to our state and country.

Did you know: 130 years ago, Colorado became the first state where women won the right to vote by popular referendum, and from Ida Clark DePriest to Ellis Meredith, Colorado women have led the nation in the fight for liberty and human rights. Over a century later, our state has the highest representation of women holding municipal office in the country.

What I believe: I’m glad Colorado is leading the way toward greater opportunity for women – but there is still more work to be done. From the wage gap to reproductive freedom, women continue to face a denial of their rights. We must stand firm in our fight for progress and equality.
