1 BIG THING: HONORING MILITARY CHILDREN
What’s happening: Colorado is home to over 60,000 military families. This includes tens of thousands of service members’ children who face unique challenges, including frequent changes to where they go to school and where they live.
What I did: This week, I joined my colleagues to introduce a bipartisan resolution designating April as the Month of the Military Child. This designation celebrates and honors the commitment, service, and sacrifices made by millions of children in military families across the United States, including here in Colorado.
2. STANDING UP FOR AMERICA’S KIDS
Joining Sen. Wyden and parents to call on Congress to expand the Child Tax Credit
What’s happening: When I was superintendent of Denver Public Schools, I heard from parents working two or three jobs who struggled to put food on the table. That’s why, in 2021, I helped expand the Child Tax Credit to make things a little easier for working families in Colorado and across the country.
What’s next: Congress has the chance to cut childhood poverty by expanding the Child Tax Credit once again. The House has already passed this legislation by an overwhelming bipartisan vote. Now, it’s time for the Senate to do its job.
This week: Parents from 47 states traveled to Washington to call on Congress to pass this bill and extend this lifeline for working families. Alongside Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, I joined the group in front of the Capitol to discuss the importance of the Child Tax Credit and thank them for their efforts.
3. EXPANDING PARTNERSHIPS ACROSS THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE
I joined Sen. Cassidy and industry leaders to discuss the Americas Act
What I believe: Across the Americas, we share rich ties and enormous untapped opportunities for partnership. But since the end of the Cold War, Washington has failed to offer a compelling alternative to Chinese investment in Latin America.
What I’m working on: Alongside Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy and bicameral colleagues, I introduced the bipartisan Americas Act – legislation to strengthen trade partnerships across the Western Hemisphere and counter China’s influence.
Good news: Early this week, the Financial Times endorsed our bill as critical to reasserting U.S. leadership, and on Tuesday, I joined Senator Cassidy and businesses to talk about the benefits of this legislation.
In case you missed it: In October, Senator Cassidy and I spoke with Fox News’ Bret Baier about the importance of this bill for the United States and the entire Western Hemisphere.
