1 BIG THING: WELCOMING FEDERAL INVESTMENTS FOR COLORADO
What’s happening: Over the past ten days, I’ve welcomed nearly $209 million in federal funds to Colorado. From improving our infrastructure to helping our family farms deploy clean energy, these dollars will make important investments across our state. The funding includes:
2. FIGHTING FOR COLORADO’S FARMERS
Hosting an Agriculture Subcommittee Field Hearing with Senator Marshall in Burlington
What’s happening: Today, America’s farmers and ranchers face unprecedented challenges, including a historic drought and a changing climate. Yet, our country’s agriculture conservation programs haven’t kept pace with a West that looks very different from the Dust Bowl era.
This week: As Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Conservation, Climate, Forestry, and Natural Resources, I hosted a hearing in Burlington, Colorado – alongside Kansas U.S. Senator Roger Marshall – where we spoke with Western agriculture leaders about the issues they face. I also visited a local farm to see how Colorado’s farmers are innovating solutions to combat drought.
What I believe: Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and central to our Western way of life, but farmers and ranchers need more federal assistance and flexibility to maintain their livelihoods and produce our nation's food supply. I’m confident that this week’s conversations will help us continue to cut red tape and support farm workers in our corner of the country and beyond.
3. SUPPORTING COLORADO’S RURAL HOSPITALS
Touring the Haxtun Health facility
What’s happening: In Colorado and nationwide, rural hospitals and providers lack the resources to serve their communities effectively. As they face issues like aging infrastructure and staffing shortages, these facilities need our help to ensure every Coloradan can get the care they need.
What I did: I was glad to help secure $2 million in funding for Haxtun Health, a rural hospital in northeastern Colorado. This week, I toured the facility to see firsthand how these dollars will help build a new clinic and improve access to high-quality care for the community.
4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK
- Last weekend was the 50th anniversary of Denver Pride. Each year, Pride is an opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms and recommit to achieve equality for all.
- The U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $850 million in funding to reduce methane pollution in the oil and gas sectors. These dollars will help states like Colorado protect our environment and safeguard the health of our communities.
