1 BIG THING: IMPROVING COLORADO TRANSIT
What happened: This week, Colorado U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper and I welcomed nearly $52 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve and modernize Colorado bus systems. From Telluride to Greeley, this Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding includes nine grants for projects across the state.
What I believe: These investments will support Colorado communities as they improve their bus systems to cut emissions and better meet the needs of Coloradans who rely on public transit. View the complete list of projects here.
2. ENSURING QUALITY HEALTH CARE FOR COLORADO’S VETERANS
What’s happening: Colorado's veterans have sacrificed so much for our country – they deserve access to high-quality health care. However, as the Eastern Colorado hospital system and Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs continue facing persistent leadership and oversight issues, our veterans suffer the consequences.
What I'm doing: Alongside Senator Hickenlooper and Colorado U.S. Representative Jason Crow, I wrote a letter calling on the Veterans Affairs Rocky Mountain Network to urgently address patient care issues. I'll always work to ensure the health and safety of veterans in Colorado and across the country.
3. CELEBRATING COLORADO’S PARKS AND PUBLIC LANDS
Hiking in Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests
What’s happening: July is National Parks and Recreation Month, a reminder to get outside and enjoy our state’s incredible natural beauty.
What I believe: In Colorado, extraordinary parks and public lands shape our identity and drive our economy. I’ll keep working to protect our beautiful natural landscapes for future generations.
4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK
- Last weekend marked 30 years since the tragic Storm King Fire claimed the lives of 14 wildland firefighters. We honor their memory and will never forget the sacrifice of those who risk their lives to keep our communities safe.
- This week, we recognized Black Women's Equal Pay Day, a reminder that Black women make just 69 cents for every dollar paid to white men. We must work to ensure every American receives equal pay for equal work.
- In honor of International Day of the Girl, the White House Gender Policy Council is seeking nominations for girls who are leading change in their communities. Nominate a young leader by August 2 here.
