1 BIG THING: SECURING OVER $50 MILLION FOR COLORADO

Image

What happened: In August alone, Colorado received over $50 million in new federal dollars. These investments will support communities across our state as they work to make important energy efficiency improvements, protect our public lands, support Tribes in Colorado, and more.

Some highlights: This week, we welcomed nearly $23 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to assist our state’s migrant support efforts. Earlier this month, Colorado received over $21 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help our state’s homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.

What’s next: Colorado is already benefiting from these important investments and I’ll continue my work to ensure our state receives as much federal funding as possible.

2. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK

  • The 2024 Paralympic Summer Games started in Paris. I’m wishing luck to the Colorado athletes competing and to all of Team USA. See where to watch here
  • It’s been five years since the establishment of U.S. Space Command, the 11th combatant command and a vital part of the United States’ sustained military power in space. After years of fighting to keep Space Command in Colorado, I’m grateful our state remains its permanent home.
  • This week marked 104 years since the adoption of the 19th Amendment, which gave U.S. women the right to vote. We honor the women whose bravery and persistence made this possible and those who continue to fight for equal rights for all women.
