1 BIG THING: CELEBRATING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
What’s happening: September 15 marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, an opportunity to uplift Hispanic voices and stories nationwide. I’m celebrating the important contributions of Colorado’s Hispanic community to our history, economy, culture, and more.
What I believe: There is so much to celebrate about the Hispanic community’s deep roots in Colorado. I’m grateful for the more than 1.2 million Hispanic Americans who call our state home.
What I’m doing: This week, my bipartisan resolution recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month passed the Senate unanimously. I’ll keep working to honor the history and influence of Hispanic Americans and ensure this important community has the care and resources it needs.
2. PROTECTING AMERICANS’ ACCESS TO IVF TREATMENT
Joining Leader Schumer and our Senate colleagues ahead of the vote on IVF.
What’s happening: Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, we’ve seen attack after attack on women’s reproductive freedoms. Now, Republicans are pushing to restrict access to in vitro fertilization (IVF).
What I believe: IVF is an important treatment that provides hope for Coloradans and families everywhere. Every woman deserves the right to access reproductive care when they need it.
This week: I voted to pass the Right to IVF Act to ensure Americans continue to have unrestricted access to this critical care. However, for the second time in four months, Senate Republicans blocked this important bill. This is unacceptable, and we must continue our fight to protect reproductive freedom.
3. FIGHTING FOR A FAIR ECONOMY
Speaking alongside my House colleagues about creating an economy that works for everyone.
What’s happening: For forty years, trickle-down economics has failed our middle class. Our tax code rewards the wealthiest Americans, while hardworking families in Colorado and across the country struggle to make ends meet.
What I believe: It's time to get serious about tackling our out-of-control debt, putting kids first, and creating an economy that works for everyone.
What I did: Earlier this week, I joined Texas Representative Lloyd Doggett and Wisconsin Representative Gwen Moore to look ahead to 2025, when we will have a chance to reform the tax code to restore the American middle class, fight childhood poverty, and put money back in the pockets of those who need it most.
4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK
- Good news: the State Department announced that Americans can now renew their passports online.
- Applications are now open for the 2025 U.S. Senate Youth Program. Every year, this unique program brings together government officials and students in Washington to prepare young people for civic leadership. Learn more and apply here.
- I sat down with our new Senate page last week to thank her for her hard work. I know firsthand what it’s like to be a page, and I’m grateful for her dedication.
