1 BIG THING: VISITING SOUTHWEST COLORADO

Image

Meeting with local leaders at Crystal Lake in Ouray.

What happened: This week, I traveled throughout Southwest Colorado to meet with constituents and local leaders. From visiting with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe in Towaoc to understanding how Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding is improving a major highway in La Plata County, I enjoyed seeing what Coloradans are working on and hearing what I can do to help.

One highlight: I joined local leaders and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) officials to visit Crystal Lake, a critical resource for Ouray – not just as a water source, but for its unique recreational offerings and beautiful scenery. I’m working with the town and county of Ouray and USFS to restore this lake and preserve it for future generations of Coloradans.

What’s next: My favorite part of my job is traveling across our state to speak with Coloradans about the issues that matter to them. I look forward to taking these thoughts and ideas back to Washington as we continue working to make our state a better place to live for every Coloradan.

2. WELCOMING FUNDING FOR SAFE, CLEAN WATER

What’s happening: No parent in America should have to worry about the water their kids drink. However, far too many Americans – including in Colorado – face the daily threat of lead pipes.

This week: I welcomed over $44 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to ensure Denver Water and communities across our state continue to lead the way to replace harmful lead pipes and expand access to clean, reliable water.

What I believe: I’m thankful Coloradans will benefit from this major nationwide investment in the health of America’s communities. I’ll always fight to ensure every Colorado community has the resources they need and deserve.

3. MARKING ONE YEAR SINCE THE OCTOBER 7 TERRORIST ATTACKS

A solemn anniversary: Monday marked one year since Hamas terrorists invaded Israel, brutally killed 1,200 innocent people, and kidnapped 250 more. A year later, this terrible war continues to inflict enormous human suffering and trauma on Israelis, Palestinians, and people far beyond the Middle East.

What I believe: As the families of Hamas’ hostages continue to call for an agreement to free their loved ones and secure a mutual ceasefire in Gaza, the U.S. must keep leading efforts to achieve such a deal. I’ll continue doing everything I can to support negotiations that will bring lasting peace and prosperity to the region, and build towards a two-state solution. Read my full statement here.
