1 BIG THING: CELEBRATING CLEAN ENERGY INVESTMENTS IN COLORADO

Image

Celebrating major clean energy investments in Colorado from the Inflation Reduction Act.

Great news: This week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced billions in funding for rural electric cooperatives across the country – including an incredible $2.5 billion in total financing through grants and loans for Colorado-based co-op Tri-State. Hundreds of millions more will be coming to four other Colorado rural electric cooperatives selected to move forward in the awards process.

What I did: Alongside my Colorado colleagues Reps. Carraveo and Petterson, I joined USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small and Tri-State in Westminster to celebrate this funding made possible through the historic Inflation Reduction Act

Looking ahead: These dollars will be critical to ensure our rural cooperatives modernize their energy infrastructure, cut pollution, create jobs, and lower energy costs for farms, families, and small businesses. As Colorado continues to lead the nation’s clean energy transition, I’m so grateful our state is benefiting from this important investment.

2. SUPPORTING COLORADANS’ EFFORTS TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE

Touring Charm Industrial’s Fort Lupton facility.

What’s happening: From destructive mudslides to longer and more intense wildfire seasons, Colorado and the West are on the front lines of climate change, and we owe it to the next generation to tackle this crisis head-on.

This week: I visited Charm Industrial’s facility in Fort Lupton to learn more about their cutting-edge work to combat the climate crisis by aiming to permanently remove carbon from our atmosphere. Charm is focused not only on cutting climate pollution, but reducing wildfire risk for the future of Colorado and the West.

What’s next: Thanks to the work of innovative companies like Charm, our state continues to lead the country in the fight against climate change. I look forward to following their progress and supporting Coloradans working to reduce emissions and protect the health of our communities.

3. SUPPORTING AMERICAN TAXPAYERS ABROAD

What’s happening: For the over 9 million Americans living abroad, tax preparation can be costly and frustrating. Currently, tax preparation fees can be up to ten times more expensive for taxpayers living overseas.

This week: I called on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to expand its free Direct File program to as many taxpayers as possible – including those living outside of the United States.

What I believe: Every American should be able to file taxes easily and efficiently, no matter where they live. I’ll continue working with my colleagues to get this done.
