Dear
Friend,
Honoring
Our
Nation's
Fallen
Heroes
On
Memorial
Day
we
were
reminded
of
so
many
men
and
women
who
have
stood
on
the
front
lines
of
freedom
and
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
for
our
country.
They
answered
the
call
to
serve
and
valiantly
protected
our
freedoms,
our
liberties,
and
our
rights.
I
hope
you
will
join
me
every
day
in
celebrating
and
memorializing
these
brave
men
and
women
who
valiantly
served
our
country.
Protecting
Canyons
of
the
Ancients
National
Monument
I
sent
a
letter
with Congressman
Scott
Tipton urging
the
Trump
Administration
to
protect
Canyons
of
the
Ancients
National
Monument
in
Southwest
Colorado. Congressman
Tipton
and
I
firmly
believe
any
review
of
Canyons
should
conclude
that
no
changes
to
the
designation
are
necessary.

Fighting
for
Energy
Research
I
joined
Senator Lamar
Alexander
(R-TN),
along
with
four
of
our
colleagues,
to
send
a
letter
to
President
Trump
urging
him
to
continue
to
fund
the
Department
of
Energy’s
research
programs.
In
the
letter,
we
stated, “The
United
States
does
many
things
well,
but
one
thing
we
do
better
than
any
other
country
in
the
world
is
innovation
through
research.
The
Department
of
Energy’s
research
programs
have
made
the
United
States
a
world
leader
in
science
and
technology,
and
will
help
the
United
States
maintain
its
brainpower
advantage
and
remain
competitive
with
countries
like
China
and
India.”

Moving
the
Bureau
of
Land
Management
West
is
Supported
by
Coloradans
Earlier
this
month,
I
introduced
legislation that
would
authorize
the
move
of
the
Bureau
of
Land
Management’s
(BLM)
headquarters
from
Washington,
D.C.
to
the
West.
This
legislation
is
supported
by
countless
Coloradans
and
local
officials,
including
Club
20,
Grand
Junction
Area
Chamber
of
Commerce,
Colorado Farm
Bureau,
Fruita
Chamber
of
Commerce,
Colorado
Rural
Electric
Association,
Colorado
Wool
Growers
Association,
Grand
County,
Hinsdale
County,
and
Montezuma
County.
Check
out
what
Coloradans
are
saying
below:
Club
20:
“Decentralization
of
the
BLM
will
create
expanded
job
opportunities
for
the
Western
US
and
Western
Colorado
and
those
making
critical
decisions
on
the
management
and
regulation
of
these
lands
will
be
those
who
live
in
the
communities
surrounded
by
them.”
Grand
Junction
Area
Chamber
of
Commerce:
“We
applaud
your
“thinking
outside
the
box”
and
seeing
the
benefit
of
moving
up
to
400
key
decision
makers
in
the
BLM
closer
to
the
lands
they
manage.
It
will
provide
a
clearer
vision
for
them
of
how
their
decisions
impact
the
lands
of
the
West
and
offer
cost
savings
in
terms
of
overhead
costs
such
as
office
space,
employee
travel
and
employee
housing
costs.”
Colorado
Farm
Bureau:
“Locating
the
BLM
headquarters
in
the
west
would
send
a
clear
message
by
Congress
and
the
Administration
that
it
is
important
for
federal
officials
to
be
in
touch
with
the
areas
that
are
affected
by
their
decisions.
We
feel
this
will
create
needed
reforms
to
federal
regulations
that
have
been
driven
by
beltway
bureaucrats
who
don’t
see
firsthand
the
impacts
of
overburdensome
rulemaking.
This
move
could
result
in
a
more
cooperative
approach
between
ranchers,
energy
development,
recreation
and
environmental
benefits
that
advance
when
a
multiple
use
concept
is
applied
to
federal
lands.
We
feel
strongly
that
a
move
could
end
the
delays
in
decision
making
that
are
driving
up
the
cost
of
doing
business
and
resulting
in
unnecessary
bureaucratic
obstacles.”
Hinsdale
County:
“It
couldn’t
be
more
important
to
have
the
national
BLM
office
in
Colorado
which
is
centrally
located
in
the
heart
of
the
American
West. Our
surrounding
counties,
also
richj
in
federal
lands,
face
many
of
the
same
challenges
as
Hinsdale
with
our
federal
lands.”

Meeting
with
Club
20
Last
week,
I
had
the
opportunity
to
meet
with
Coloradans
who
are
part
of
Club
20,
a
local
government
organization
on
the
Western
Slope.
We
had
a
great
discussion
about
how
the
federal
government
can
best
help
Colorado's
local
communities.
Supporting
Economic
Development
in
Southwest
Colorado
Last
week,
I
announced
Southwest
Colorado
will
receive
a
$300,000
grant
from
the
Economic
Development
Administration
(EDA).
According
to
the
EDA,
the
funding
will
be
used
to
“provide
resources
to
capitalize
a
Revolving
Loan
Fund
that
will
cover
the
region
of
southwest
Colorado,
which
comprises
the
counties
of
Archuleta,
Dolores,
Montezuma,
La
Plata,
and
San
Juan.
The
funds
will
be
used
to
bolster
small
businesses
in
the
region
and
support
our
rural
communities
that
have
trouble
accessing
capital.
I
look
forward
to
the
growth
of
small
business
and
better
jobs
as
this
money
is
put
to
use
in
our
local
communities.
