Dear Friend,

Bringing Greater Accountability to the VA

Last week, I voted for the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017. This legislation makes it easier for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to discipline, including firing, employees who do not provide the proper care to our veterans and creates an office within the agency specifically designed to receive whistleblower tips.

Our veterans have given everything for our country and they should always have access to the best possible care we can offer. The vast majority of VA employees are hardworking people that are committed to take care of our veterans with the respect they deserve. However, we have heard far too many stories about a few bad employees that have mistreated our heroes and provided inferior levels of care. This bipartisan legislation holds them accountable by allowing the Secretary the discretion to reprimand or remove bad employees from the VA, and provides another needed step in cleaning up the VA to ensure our veterans always have the highest levels of care available.

Colorado Native Nominated to Serve on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals

Last week, President Trump nominated Colorado native, Allison Eid, to serve on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

I have known Allison since my days as a student at the University of Colorado Law School and have been extremely impressed with her service on Colorado’s Supreme Court. Whether she was clerking for Justice Clarence Thomas, teaching at CU Law, arguing cases as Colorado’s Solicitor General, or writing opinions as a member of the state’s Supreme Court, she has always been an ardent defender of the Constitution and committed to upholding the rule of law. I look forward to supporting Allison throughout her confirmation process.

Check out a short video I filmed by clicking here to learn more about why Justice Eid is such a great choice.

Deputy Interior Secretary Nominee Approved by Energy Committee

I’m thrilled David Bernhardt was approved by the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to become the next Deputy Secretary of the Interior today. As a native Coloradan from Rifle, David has a deep understanding of Western land issues, and I’m confident his expertise and experience will serve the Department well. I look forward to continuing to support his nomination as it is taken up on the Senate floor.

Two Coloradans Selected as NASA Astronaut Candidates

Last week, NASA announced their newest class of astronaut candidates. NASA received more than 18,300 applications and selected twelve men and women to join the new astronaut class, and two of those selected are from Colorado!

I want to congratulate Lieutenant Commander Matthew Dominick and Jessica Watkins on being selected to join NASA’s newest astronaut class. These two incredible candidates will make Colorado proud as they join the bright men and women at NASA who ensure the United States remains at the forefront of space exploration. I’m proud our state will continue to be a leader in space exploration, and I will continue to support Colorado’s aerospace industry.
