Fighting for an Economy that Works for Everyone

What I believe: For 40 years, trickle-down economics has failed our middle class. Our tax code rewards the wealthiest Americans, while hardworking families in Colorado and across the country struggle to make ends meet. It's time to get serious about tackling our out-of-control debt, putting kids first, and creating an economy that works for everyone.

What happened: Earlier this week, I joined POLITICO Playbook for a discussion about the importance of working across the aisle to create a fair tax policy that benefits working families and puts money back in the pockets of those who need it most. Watch the full discussion here.

What’s next: As we begin the new Congress, I’ll continue pushing to reform the tax code and fight childhood poverty through critical lifelines like the expanded Child Tax Credit.

2. Protecting the Colorado River

In case you missed it: Last week, I celebrated $170 million from the Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) to address Western drought and restore the health of Colorado’s watersheds, including $40 million to help secure the Shoshone water rights on the Colorado River.

What I believe:
Thanks to the historic Inflation Reduction Act, this incredible investment will bring Coloradans one step closer to protecting the environmental, economic, and agricultural resources of our state’s namesake river. As Colorado and the West face unprecedented drought, I’m grateful USBR answered our calls to support this important project.

3. Thanking Our Interns for their Dedication to Colorado

Meeting with our spring intern class.

What happened: This week, I sat down with our spring intern class for a discussion about everything from improving our education system to the importance of bipartisan cooperation.

What I believe: It’s always great to meet with our interns to hear what’s on the minds of the next generation of leaders. I’m so grateful for their hard work and dedication to the people of Colorado.

4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK

  • Great news: Colorado’s 2024 high school graduation rate was the highest in over a decade. As we celebrate this promising improvement, let's recommit to ensuring every Colorado student has the resources to succeed in and out of the classroom.
  • It’s been 165 years since the establishment of the Colorado National Guard. I’m grateful for the more than 5,000 members across our state who help keep us safe at home and abroad.
  • Congratulations to the 14 Colorado food and drink specialists named as semifinalists for the James Beard Awards. We are lucky to live in a state with such extraordinary culinary talent.
