Hearing From Coloradans About Issues That Matter to Them

Image

What happened: On Monday, I hosted a telephone town hall where I spoke with Coloradans from across the state about the issues that matter to them – from safeguarding our public lands to protecting Medicaid for the millions of Coloradans who rely on it. If you missed it, you can listen to the full telephone town hall here.

Next week:
I am hosting a webinar on Tuesday, March 11th, at 5:30 PM MT for federal workers statewide alongside my colleagues and a panel of federal employee rights experts. If you are a current, terminated, or recently separated federal employee, I encourage you to join us as we share resources and answer your questions – sign up here

2. Uplifting the Stories of Wrongfully Terminated Federal Workers

What I believe: Forest Service employees across the West are true public servants – dedicating their lives to managing our public lands that power our economy, keep our air and water clean, and protect our communities from growing wildfire risk. The decision to terminate these employees at our already understaffed land management agencies is not just short-sighted, it’s downright dangerous.

This week:
I was honored that Glenwood Springs’ Jamie Werner joined me at President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress. As a wrongfully terminated U.S. Forest Service employee at the White River National Forest, Jamie represents the thousands of federal employees caught up in President Trump’s chaos. Learn more about Jamie’s story here.

What’s next:
I will continue to call for the reinstatement of Jamie and all terminated federal employees, and demand that the Trump Administration treat our public servants with the respect they deserve.

3. Protecting Colorado Forests, Resources, and Communities from Wildfires

Speaking at a Senate Agriculture Subcommittee hearing.

What’s happening: In Colorado, our national forests underpin our economy and our way of life. But today, they’re facing unprecedented threats – including increasingly severe drought and longer wildfire seasons.

What I’m doing:
As President Trump takes a chainsaw to the Forest Service workforce and funding, I’m using every tool at my disposal to push back. This week, I spoke at a hearing for the Senate Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry, Natural Resources, and Biotechnology about the urgent need for more resources to protect our forests, water resources, and communities from devastating wildfires. Watch my full remarks here.

4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK

  • I spoke on the Senate floor to force a vote urging my colleagues to reaffirm the simple fact that Russia unlawfully and unjustly invaded Ukraine – but Republicans blocked it. We must continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Putin’s aggression, for the sake of the Ukrainian people, U.S. national security, and democracy everywhere.
  • This week, I was glad to meet with three inspiring Colorado student leaders participating in the U.S. Senate Youth Program. Each year, this selective program brings together government officials and student leaders for a unique week-long program in Washington, D.C.
