Demanding Accountability from Our Country’s Intelligence Leaders

What happened: This week, we learned that the Trump administration’s top security and intelligence leaders discussed classified information using the commercially available Signal messaging platform. At Tuesday’s open Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, I demanded that these officials – including CIA Director John Ratcliffe – take accountability for their reckless behavior. Read more here.

What I believe: The Trump administration's sloppiness and incompetence aren’t just embarrassing; they are dangerous. Their continued refusal to take accountability for this egregious mistake is nothing short of an insult to the intelligence of the American people.

What’s next: I will always demand accountability from our country’s highest leaders, no matter who is president. I won’t stop pushing for answers and action in the wake of this unacceptable failure. To hear more of my thoughts, watch my conversation with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins here.

2. Improving the Resiliency of Colorado’s Watersheds

What’s happening:
In Colorado, our forests and watersheds underpin our economy and our Western way of life. They protect our water supply, support agriculture, drive outdoor recreation, and sustain diverse wildlife habitats. But today, they’re facing unprecedented threats – including increasingly severe climate-fueled disasters like drought and wildfire.

What I did:
This week, alongside Utah U.S. Senator John Curtis, I reintroduced two bipartisan bills to cut red tape and help ensure our communities, local water managers, and the U.S. Forest Service have everything they need to meet these challenges head-on and recover when disaster strikes. I’ll keep working across the aisle to get this done for our state.

3. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK

  • Saturday marked four years since the King Soopers shooting in Boulder, when a gunman took the lives of 10 Coloradans. As we mark this solemn anniversary, I’m thinking of the victims whose lives were cut short by this senseless act of violence, their families, and the entire Boulder community.
  • Equal Pay Day is a reminder that women in Colorado still make just 76 cents for every dollar a man earns. We must keep fighting to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act and ensure that women earn equal pay for equal work.
  • As Coloradans begin planning Spring travel, make sure your passport is up to date. If you’re traveling internationally, many countries require that your passport have at least 90 days remaining before expiry. For help renewing your passport, visit my website.
  • Aurora's Vedanth Raju will represent Colorado at the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Congratulations and good luck to this inspiring young Coloradan!
