Dear Friend,

Securing Long-Awaited Anvil Points Money

Last week, I was thrilled to be in Grand Junction with local leaders and county commissioners to tout the millions of dollars being returned to Colorado counties. I have worked to ensure this money would be returned to Colorado for years and I was excited to celebrate this success with our community on the Western Slope. I appreciate Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and Deputy Secretary David Bernhardt’s work to make this happen and know our local communities will benefit from this decision. Google's Rolling Study Halls in Deer Lake, CO

I was in Deer Trail, CO at Google's Rolling Study Halls launch event last week where I got to spend time with students on a WiFi-equipped school bus and participated in a coding exercise. Students in rural communities spend hours each day on the bus commuting to and from school and this new initiative will allow them to be more productive during this time. Thank you to Google for investing in Deer Trail and other communities in rural Colorado! Check out this CBS Denver story here.

Tour of the San Luis Valley

I spent part of the state work period traveling through rural Colorado and had meetings in Park, Chaffee, Saguache, Mineral, Rio Grande, Alamosa, Conejos, and Costilla counties. While the front range continues to experience economic growth, it is important to remember many of our rural communities are not seeing the same type of growth. I enjoyed meeting with local officials, community leaders, farmers, and small business owners to discuss many topics, including rural economic development, broadband, telehealth, agriculture, trade, the opioid crisis, and more. Coloradans’ voices are my best resource and I always appreciate listening to new ideas. My job is to represent all of Colorado and I look forward to visiting with more of you soon. Be sure to check out some photos from my visits below.

At the Mineral County Landfill, I met with local officials to discuss the importance of the local landfill and ways to expand recycling in the county. I had a great night in South Fork, as well, where I was able to meet with local leaders and talk about how the federal government can help our rural communities.

In Monte Vista, I held a Q+A with farmers and local officials to answer questions on trade, agriculture, and more. I also held a meeting with town officials in La Jara to discuss their concerns. We had a productive conversation about small businesses in rural communities, opioid addiction, telehealth, and much more.

Highlighting Colorado Achievements and Real Solutions

It was an honor to take part in the groundbreaking in Aurora at Fitzsimons Innovation Community Bioscience 3. The new facility will offer an unrivaled range of opportunity to life science research and development companies of all sorts.

I also held an opioid roundtable at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood to discuss the hospital’s innovative strategies to combat the opioid epidemic & how my ALTO Act can play a role. Read about my bipartisan legislation with Senator Michael Bennet here

AWEA Award for Continued Advancement of Wind Energy in Colorado

I was honored to be recognized as a "steadfast friend to America's wind workers" by Tom Kiernan, CEO of AWEA. Thank you to the American Wind Energy Association for naming me a U.S. Wind Champion. Throughout my time in Congress, I have been a strong proponent of an all-of-the-above energy approach that includes renewable energies like wind power. The wind energy industry is important to Colorado’s economy and employs thousands of people across the state. I will continue to champion policies that benefit wind energy and work with Coloradans to continue our state’s leadership in renewable technologies.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter from Thatcher, Caitlyn, and the entire Gardner family! I hope all those that celebrated had a joyous day.
