Dear Friend,

Meeting with Supreme Court Nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh

Last week I met with Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court. He is well-qualified and has extensive experience in the federal courts. We had a long conversation about how a judge should perform on the bench, discussing how it's imperative to look at the law, and rule on the law and where the law takes you, putting aside policy preferences and personal beliefs. It was a very good meeting and I think he will make an incredible Supreme Court justice.

Questioning Secretary Mike Pompeo

Last week Secretary of State Mike Pompeo answered questions at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing. My line of questioning was focused on finding answers from him about a timeline for the denuclearization of North Korea and applying maximum pressure against Kim Jong Un and his regime.

Interior Supports Proposal to Move BLM West

In a recent Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing, I received confirmation that the Bureau of Land Management Headquarters should be moved West. I questioned Senior Advisor to the U.S Department of Interior Susan Combs, who informed me that the intent of Interior Secretary Zinke was to relocate the headquarters. Moving the headquarters West has been a top priority of mine in the Senate. Since 99% of the land managed by BLM is West of the Mississippi River, it is only logical to move the headquarters among the land that it manages.

Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center Ribbon Cutting

I recently spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Aurora. For years I have worked toward the opening of this facility with my colleagues across the aisle, veterans, and leadership organizations. This medical center took longer than anticipated to finally open, but is crucial to Colorado's veterans. The treatment of the individuals bravely serving our country is of the utmost importance to me, and I will continue to make sure projects like these are made possible.

Bipartisan Legislation Preventing U.S from Leaving NATO without Senate Approval

I have introduced a bipartisan bill with my colleagues in the Senate prohibiting the President from withdrawing our country from NATO without consent from the Senate. In order to alter or terminate the United States membership within NATO, the President would need the Senate's approval. This legislation is critical to the future of this alliance and would challenge the Administration if action to end this incredibly successful military alliance is taken.

Meeting with Coloradans in Washington

Everyday when I'm in Washington, DC I'm meeting with Coloradans to discuss a variety of issues and ways of bettering our great state. Last week, I met with the Colorado Rapids and heard about the way sports can positively impact youth in Colorado, met with brilliant young minds from the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation and The American Legion Boys Nation, as well as the chairman and president of the 60 Plus Association. I always look forward to meetings with Coloradans and hearing their concerns and what I can do to assist.

Below are a few pictures from my recent meetings.

Washington, DC Summer Interns

I can't thank the interns of my Washington, DC office enough for all they have done for Coloradans. These college students worked directly with constituents, conducted policy research, attended hearings, and so much more. Their work in my office is greatly appreciated here in the nation's capital. The first summer DC internship period is ending and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for these bright, young minds.
