Land and Water Conservation Fund

I hosted a bipartisan press conference last week calling for the reauthorization and full funding of the crown jewel of conservation programs, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). I joined my fellow LWCF champions in both the House and Senate to fight and save this vital conservation program before the end of the year.

I also gave a speech on the Senate floor stressing the importance of this crucial conservation and recreation program that protects Colorado's public lands.

Energy Innovation Grants Awarded to Colorado Universities

I recently announced with my colleague Senator Michael Bennet that the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) awarded Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado Boulder over $2 million. This grant aims to continue their cutting edge work in innovative energy technologies. I have always advocated for continued research and development programs and will continue to do so because of the enormous benefits these programs bring to Colorado.

Bipartisan Legislation to Help Improve Veterans' Health Care

I joined several of my colleagues this week to introduce bipartisan legislation to help improve veterans’ health care by increasing collaboration among federal agencies and authorizing the Department of Energy (DOE) to develop technologies that solve complex data challenges. This bill will help provide world class care to our veterans by leveraging cutting-edge technologies at our National Labs. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan effort and I will make sure the collaboration between the Department of Veterans Affairs and our National Labs continues.

Receiving the Guardian of Small Business Award

Colorado small businesses are crucial to the economy and to our communities and I am proud to be a voice for them in Congress. I appreciate the National Federation of Independent Business recognizing my hard work for the small business community by awarding me the Guardian of Small Business Award from the President and CEO Juanita Duggan.

Working to Extend the Secure Rural Schools Program

I sent a bipartisan letter to Senate leadership recently urging the reauthorization of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. I am pressing for an extension of the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) Program in any end-of-year legislation so that the schools, libraries, and jails will continue functioning in their counties.

Meeting with Coloradans in Washington

Last week, I met with many Coloradans to discuss a variety of important, bipartisan issues. I had the opportunity to meet with President Sweeting from Colorado Christian University, We Work for Health Colorado, the new Fort Lewis College President Tom Stritikus, and former Senator Campbell Nighthorse. I also visited with military personnel from Fort Carson, and Mayor Lofgren, the new Mayor of Lochbuie.

Below are a few pictures from this week's meetings.

ICYMI: Exciting news for the Denver Airport being named the #1 large airport in the country by the Wall Street Journal. Congrats to the airport and its staff, this is a testament to the hard work it takes to operate a world-class facility and commitment to excellent service.
