I
spoke
with
Scott
Voorhees
on
KFAB
radio
in
Omaha
about
my
memory
of
the
September
11,
2001, terrorist
attacks.
Q&A:
Constitution
Day
Q.
Why
do
you
encourage
Iowans
to
celebrate
Constitution
Day?
Q.
What
constitutional
issues
resonate
in
the
daily
lives
of
Americans
today?

Iowans Peter
Deegan,
Jr.
and
Marc
Krickbaum were
confirmed
by
a
unanimous,
bipartisan
voice
vote to
serve
as
U.S.
Attorneys
for
Iowa.
The
overwhelming
bipartisan
support
for
their
nominations
from
the
U.S.
Senate
is
an
impressive
testament
to
their
qualifications
and
readiness
to
serve.
Mr. Deegan,
who
will
now
serve
as
U.S.
Attorney
for
the
Northern
District
of
Iowa,
most
recently
served
as
the
office's
criminal
division
chief.
Mr.
Krickbaum
most
recently
served
as
an
assistant
U.S.
attorney
in
Chicago
and
Des
Moines
and
will
be
the
next
U.S.
Attorney
for
the
Southern
District
of
Iowa.
Human
traffickers
prey
on
vulnerable
people
in
communities
across
the
country,
right
under
our
noses,
even
in
Iowa. The
Senate
unanimously
passed
bipartisan
legislation
I
introduced
to help
bring
greater
assistance
to
victims
of
human
trafficking
and
to
streamline
the
response
of
federal
law
enforcement
to
this
terrible
crime. I
look
forward
to
action in
the
House
of
Representatives
soon.
I
re-introduced
comprehensive
legislation
to
improve
customer
service
at
the
IRS,
create
new
taxpayer
protections
and
update
and
strengthen
existing
taxpayer
protections. Taxpayers
shouldn’t
be
at
a
disadvantage
with
an
agency
that
has
tremendous
power
over
their
money.
The
IRS
has
to
answer
taxpayers’
questions,
protect
their
privacy
and
help
people
meet
their
tax
obligations
with
fairness
and
respect.
The
International Narcotics
Control
Caucus,
which
I chair,
held
a
hearing
on
adapting
U.S.
counternarcotics efforts
in Colombia.
I introduced
legislation
that
modernizes
criminal
money
laundering
laws,
updates
counterfeiting
statutes,
enhances
tools
to
crack
down
on
smugglers
and
tax
cheats
SPACE
ADDED
and
promotes
transparency
in
the
U.S.
financial
system. More
than
90
percent
of
the
cocaine
found
on
the
streets
of
the
United
States
comes
from
Colombia,
so
a
strong counternarcotics
program
in
Colombia
is
vital
to
the
security
of
our
country.
Along
with
a
bipartisan
group
of
my
colleagues,
I'm
urging
U.S.
Trade
Representative
Robert
Lighthizer
to
work
with
the
Brazilian
government
to
end
a
recently
reinstated
tariff
on
ethanol
imports.
International
trade
should
be
fair
and
not
put
U.S.
industry
or
American
workers
at
a
disadvantage.
