Addressing the Housing Affordability Crisis

Currently, nearly one in four renters spend more than half of their household income on rent. That’s more than 10 million families whose housing costs cut into other essential expenses like child care, medication, groceries, and transportation. At the same time, nearly 600,000 Americans are experiencing homelessness on any given day, an increase over pre-COVID levels.

In Indiana and across the nation, affordable housing is needed now more than ever.

I’ve introduced a bipartisan bill to help build nearly two million new affordable homes over the next decade.

The Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act will leverage private sector investment to increase the stock of affordable housing for families in both urban and rural communities. Our bipartisan bill tackles the housing affordability crisis to help Hoosier families and strengthen our communities.

In Indiana, this legislation would provide an additional 44,500 housing units, leading to an estimated 67,500 more jobs and generating over $7 billion in wages.

Biden Administration’s WOTUS Rule Rejected

Last Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected the Biden Administration’s costly and confusing Waters Of The United States (WOTUS) rule. I previously joined with a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate in opposing this unnecessary bureaucratic overreach that would have created burdensome and confusing red tape for Hoosier farmers and builders.

Bill to Sanction Enablers of Palestinian Terrorists

I joined with Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to reintroduce legislation that would impose sanctions on foreign individuals, entities, and governments that provide support to Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and other Palestinian terrorist groups that just spent weeks launching more than 1,000 rockets at Israeli civilians.

Israel has the right to defend itself from terrorist groups like Hamas. I’m proud to support this legislation to cut off those in Iran and elsewhere who funnel support to their terrorist proxies in Gaza and the West Bank and send a clear message that the United States will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel.
