South Korea Visit to Bolster U.S.-Korea Alliance

Image

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Korea Caucus, I recently visited the Republic of Korea (ROK) to deepen and strengthen the U.S.-Korea alliance.

I met with South Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol to discuss U.S.-Korea relations, strategies for countering mutual security and economic threats, and actions the United States and Korea can take with Japan to further the momentum of the Camp David Summit. I also met with Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun and other senior Korean government officials to discuss Korean investment in the United States and other shared economic and national security interests.

In addition to these engagements with the ROK government, I received an update from senior leaders of United States Forces Korea, which plays a critical role in deterring aggression from North Korea and supporting security and stability in the Indo-Pacific. I also held economic discussions with Korean business leaders about jobs and investments in Indiana.

It is critical that the U.S.-Korea alliance is both active and strong, and this productive trip reaffirmed the importance of the partnership between our nations. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress on ways to deepen U.S.-Korea economic and security cooperation to help preserve a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Partnership Between Purdue and NSWC Crane

Purdue University and NSWC Crane recently announced a partnership to accelerate collaborative research agreements on national security, defense, and semiconductors. Titled Purdue@Crane, this focus on hypersonics, energetic materials, and trusted microelectronics at WestGate@Crane Technology Park builds on the strong Crane-Purdue partnerships in these fields.

Purdue and NSWC Crane are two of our country’s most important assets as we strive for technological advantage. Our national security depends on partnerships among higher education, the private sector, and all layers of government and this venture is yet another example of how Indiana is leading the way.

SuperATV in Madison

Image

I recently visited SuperATV, a family business in Madison. We need to ensure that its growth, and that of other Hoosier employers, is not restricted by unnecessary or burdensome federal rules and regulations.

I joined the AgriNovus podcast to talk about food security and national security. Recognizing Summer Interns

Image

I want to thank Hoosier students who participated in a summer internship in my Indiana offices. They assisted with daily activities and special projects related to legislation, communications, and constituent services.

The intern class in my Indianapolis office included Zuri Cassell (left), a graduate of Indiana University from Indianapolis; Natalle Cawson (top right), a graduate of Liberty University from Noblesville; Adam Spensley (top right), a senior from Carmel attending Purdue University; and Conner Taylor (bottom right), a senior from Carmel attending Wabash College. Caroline Witten from Harrison County interned in my New Albany office and is a freshman at Indiana State University (not pictured).

My office offers internship opportunities year-round, in both my Indiana and Washington, D.C. offices. Students who are interested in applying can click here or call 202-224-5623 to learn more.
