Freeze Iranian Assets

Following the deadly terrorist attacks Hamas carried out against Israel on October 7, I joined with a bipartisan group of senators to urge Secretary of State Antony Blinken to make it official U.S. policy to freeze $6 billion in Iranian assets. In September of this year, the State Department announced its intention to release these assets to Iran. However, given Iran’s long-standing material and financial support for Hamas, including the supply of weapons and rockets Hamas then used to attack Israel, the Biden Administration must reverse its decision. The United States must do everything in its power in the wake of this brutal attack to ensure that Iran is not in a position to continue funding acts of terror across the region and the world.

Midwest Alliance Wins Hydrogen Hub

Last Friday, the Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen (MachH2) was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations to develop a regional clean hydrogen production and distribution hub (H2Hub). MachH2 is comprised of more than 70 public and private entities committed to growing the Midwest regional hydrogen value chain. This funding will allow MachH2 to develop a regional clean hydrogen production and distribution hub.

This announcement is a win for Indiana and the entire Midwest. This investment in Indiana’s hydrogen ecosystem will mean more opportunities for our Hoosier workforce and higher education system. This is exciting news and another example of how Hoosiers are leading the way in innovation, and I congratulate the entire MachH2 team.

The Indiana congressional delegation sent a letter of support for MachH2’s proposal in April. Read more here.

Academy Nominations Deadline Approaching

Each year, Members of Congress have the privilege of nominating highly qualified young men and women for admission to the United States Service Academies. The academies recommend that high school students interested in applying for an appointment should contact the Academy of their choice in the spring of their junior year and apply for a congressional nomination during their senior year.

Students must also apply directly to a service academy prior to creating an application for a nomination from me. Wednesday, October 18 is the application deadline for nominations to the Service Academies.

Following a rigorous review of each completed application, my Nominations Review Board will conduct personal interviews with applicants. Applicants selected for an interview will meet in the Indianapolis area on November 18, 2023.

For more information about the nominations process, click here.
