Roadmap for AI Policy

The Bipartisan Senate AI Working Group, which I am a part of, recently released a roadmap for artificial intelligence (AI) policy. The roadmap's release follows months of discussion, input from hundreds of stakeholders, and nine first-of-their-kind, all-Senator AI Insight Forums.

Our goal is to ensure the United States maintains its leadership in AI innovation, enabling the American people to reap the national security, economic, and societal benefits of an AI-driven future.

The rapid pace of AI innovation brought this bipartisan working group together to consider how policymakers can ensure the incredible and promising aspects of AI are able to flourish while guarding against its risks. This roadmap represents the most comprehensive and impactful bipartisan recommendations on artificial intelligence ever issued by the legislative branch.

Notre Dame Confrontation with the KKK 100 Years Ago Showed the “Fight” in The Fighting Irish

This month, I delivered remarks on the 100th anniversary of the confrontation known as Notre Dame vs. the KKK.

On May 17-19, 1924, the Ku Klux Klan rallied in South Bend with the intention of intimidating Catholics. During a three-day show of resistance, students from the University of Notre Dame confronted members of the KKK.

It was one hundred years ago this month – in an act of defiance against religious intolerance – that the Fighting Irish truly came into being. We remember their bravery in exercising their most basic of American freedoms as we celebrate the day they put the “fight” in the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

DOJ, FTC Should Investigate Exclusion of
Andretti-Cadillac from F1

I joined with Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), and Mike Braun (R-Ind.) in calling on the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the exclusion of Team Andretti-Cadillac from entering the Formula One (F1) Championship series. Team Andretti-Cadillac is an American racing team backed by General Motors trying to break into a competition dominated by European teams.

Despite meeting all the requirements to join F1 set by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Andretti-Cadillac was refused entry by the commercial arm of F1, which negotiates commercial terms of entry after approval by the FIA. This has raised substantial concerns that F1’s members and sponsors may have excluded Andretti-Cadillac to insulate themselves from competition on the track and in the European car market. It is possible that such a refusal to deal could violate U.S. antitrust laws.

The Andretti team deserves a fair shot to compete in F1.

I met with Hoosier veterans visiting Washington with Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. It is always an honor to welcome veterans to the monuments in DC that are dedicated to their service. We owe a debt of gratitude to these Hoosier heroes for the selfless sacrifices they made for our nation.
