Indiana Transportation Projects Receive New Funding

Last week, Indiana received $57.8 million in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant Program. This funding will support projects in Fort Wayne, Jeffersonville, Noblesville, and Whiting, improving roads, bridges, freight infrastructure, and transportation safety while driving economic growth across the state.

I was proud to support these investments to strengthen Indiana’s infrastructure, improve safety, support commerce, and help communities prepare for future growth. From modernizing critical bridges and freight facilities to improving major transportation corridors, these projects will benefit Hoosiers for decades to come while keeping Indiana’s transportation network strong and our economy growing.

Honoring Senator Lindsey Graham

I am shocked by the sudden passing of my friend and colleague Lindsey Graham. He loved America deeply, serving first in the Air Force and then in Congress. Lindsey traveled the world and championed the United States and our people. He was hard-working, funny, and always up for a debate. We will miss Senator Graham, and I want to extend my condolences to his family, friends, and staff as they celebrate his life.

Crane Congressional Breakfast

I enjoyed seeing friends and Hoosier national security leaders at the annual Crane Congressional Breakfast this week. The men and women who serve at Crane Army Ammunition Activity and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division in southern Indiana are critical to our national security and leading in defense innovation. America's ability to win the future is being forged by Hoosiers at Crane.

Hoosier Boating Part of America 250 Celebration

I joined Congressman Rudy Yakym (R-IN-02) and leaders from the National Park Service and Hoosier boating industry to deliver a custom America 250 flag to Fort Washington Park along the Potomac River.

This delivery on an Indiana-made Smoker Craft boat is one of the U.S. Department of Interior's many celebrations of our country's great outdoors and natural resources.

Recreational boating generates $230 billion in economic activity annually and employs more than 812,000 people across 36,000 U.S. businesses. In Indiana alone, the boating industry has a $5.7 billion annual impact, supporting more than 17,000 Hoosier jobs.

Biotechnology and the Spirit of American Discovery

The United States was—and remains—the great experiment of our age. Our founders were innovators as well as statesmen, from George Washington’s 16-sided threshing barn to Thomas Jefferson’s cipher wheel for secure communication to Benjamin Franklin’s famous bifocals. Time and again, the United States has led the world’s most transformative technological breakthroughs because of a uniquely American ecosystem in which entrepreneurs transformed ideas into breakthrough technologies, universities pushed the frontiers of knowledge, and federal investment supported fundamental discovery.

That ecosystem remains one of our nation’s greatest strategic assets. And with sustained investment, strategic policy, and continued collaboration between the public and private sectors, it can once again drive the next generation of breakthroughs. Biotechnology is the next frontier of global innovation, and now is the time for the United States to lead.

I joined with National Security Commission on Emerging Biotech (NSCEB) Vice Chair Dr. Michelle Rozo to outline a roadmap to strengthen U.S. leadership in an essay for American Scientist.
