Face the Nation

Yesterday, on

Face The Nation

, I discussed how we can move forward as a nation to restore hope in our communities and strengthen our American family. One of the ways we can do this is by embracing the Opportunity Agenda – something I am passionate about and have been working on for years. I believe that we can begin to lift people up by understanding that every single American deserves a chance at the American Dream.

Senate Opportunity Coalition II

Last week, the

Senate Opportunity Coalition (SOC)

released its second report reviewing our continued progress in identifying common obstacles faced by millions of Americans still living in poverty. We are searching
for solutions that will improve the quality of K-12 education,

increase community investment, tackle housing and health care reform, and address food insecurity.

It is time for us to work on long-term solutions that will positively impact those who are living paycheck-to-paycheck, and who simply want a chance. You can read the second report

Supporting the FY17 National Defense Authorization Act

We live in a volatile world; luckily, we have the good fortune of being defended by the best military in the world. Thanks to our troops’ sacrifice, our nation remains free and protected from our enemies. Our national security and the wellbeing of those who have volunteered to defend our country are

very important to me.

I am proud to say that I voted

in support of
the

FY17 National Defense Authorization Act

. The legislation pushes for better equipment, better healthcare and compensation that keeps up with the rising cost of living for our armed forces.

Thank you for your service!

Keep the Government Running

Next month, we will welcome a new administration and a new era in our government’s existence. With so many changes ahead of us, it is important that we work to make this transition as smooth as possible. In an effort to do just that, I supported the CR to keep the government fully funded and open through April.

Tim
