Dear Friend,
Thank you for subscribing to my first newsletter on taxes and regulations. As the new administration has already started their push for a progressive, big-government, high-tax agenda, conservatives need to stand their ground now more than ever before.
I can assure you that I will do everything in my power to defeat any new regulation and every new tax on everyday Americans. We need a common-sense and practical way of doing business, and it’s clear that the new administration is already on the path to increase bureaucracy and red tape.
As you know, COVID-19 has drastically affected our economy. Yet, President Biden has already announced he wants to double the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Biden’s Plan for a $15 Minimum Wage
One of President Biden’s initial plans for coronavirus relief included a provision that would be disastrous for millions of workers. As a former small business owner, I know his call for raising the minimum wage to $15 would devastate small businesses across South Carolina, many of which are already on life support because of the pandemic. It would also have the opposite of its intended effect, causing lay-offs and business closures—a trend that has already destroyed countless South Carolina communities.
Just this week, I questioned Biden’s nominee for Treasury Secretary about her thoughts on increasing the minimum wage and was profoundly disappointed in her response. Janet Yellen dismissed the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office’s estimation of 3.7 million jobs lost as “minimal.” Ask any small business owner, and they’ll tell you what they think! We should focus on targeted aid to American workers and helping small businesses recover from the pandemic.
You can count on me to defend the hardworking men and women of South Carolina and hold the Biden administration accountable.
Opportunity Zones Update
This past December, with the coronavirus pandemic raging on, I sent a letter to the Treasury Department to ensure that the more than 8,700 Opportunity Zones across the nation are taken care of.
These Zones are on track to create thousands of new jobs, affordable housing, grocery stores, farms, pharmacies, and other businesses for millions of Americans who have been overlooked for far too long. Earlier this week, we received good news from the Treasury Department assuring me that every necessary resource will be made available so that Opportunity Zones can flourish and continue to change lives.
Thank you for reading my first newsletter on taxes and regulations. Over the coming months, I’ll continue to stay in touch on what I am working on in the Senate, and what I am hearing from you!
Sincerely,
