Fighting Diabetes
Half a million South Carolinians—and ¼ of our state’s seniors—are living with diabetes. On Tuesday, I introduced a bipartisan bill that would expand access to life-saving health care options for those who already have diabetes and provide tools that would help delay or prevent the disease’s onset for those who are susceptible.
The bill would establish virtual diabetes programs, allowing folks in rural or medically underserved parts of South Carolina to access quality care. Twenty-six organizations have already announced their support for the bill, and I look forward to my Senate colleagues doing the same.
Artis Ware Center for Education
Throughout my childhood, my granddaddy would sit down with the newspaper at the kitchen table every morning. It wasn’t until 20 years later that I discovered he had never learned how to read. He was just setting a good example for me and my brother because he truly believed that a good education was key to achieving the American Dream.
On Thursday, I was proud to join the Palmetto Promise Institute in announcing their new online center for education opportunity, named after my granddaddy Artis Ware. This center will address education issues facing South Carolina’s youth, and it will prioritize school choice for all. Check out the Artis Ware Center for Education Opportunity here.
