Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Neglect, Mismanagement, and Inflation!
Watch my opening remarks here.
The country has witnessed an already dire economic situation become worse with the failure of Silicon Valley and Signature Banks. These failures are a direct result of bank mismanagement, supervisory neglect, and the Biden administration’s inflation crisis.
This is bad news for American taxpayers who will be forced to foot the bill for this failure. Our leaders need to held accountable for their failure—and I plan to do just that!

Giving Employees A Fair Chance
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has been weaponized by the Biden administration. The NLRB’s job is to act as an impartial party when employees and employers have disputes— this isn’t the case anymore.
For far too long, the NLRB has caved to the political whims of big labor unions at the expense of hardworking Americans and their families. I joined Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.), and Mike Braun (R-Ind.) to introduce legislation to amend the National Labor Relations Act and return the NLRB to its intended purpose: an independent federal agency that acts as an impartial body in deciding cases related to the National Labor Relations Act.

Fighting Against Government Overreach
The Biden Administration’s Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule represents a significant increase in the scope of federal authority, enabling government agencies to exert control over practically all bodies of water, including wetlands and streams. The rule takes power from the hardworking people who live on and work the land and puts it in the hands of out-of-touch DC bureaucrats.
That’s why I voted in favor of a Congressional Review Act joint resolution of disapproval to overturn the WOTUS rule. With its nearly 25,000 farms and more wetlands than most states, South Carolina stands to be disproportionately harmed by this regulatory overreach. You can rest assured that I will continue the fight to protect our farmers and ranchers.

Celebrating the Impact of HBCUs

Click here to watch the video recap.
This week, I hosted over 80 HBCU leaders for my 7th annual HBCU fly-in. As co-chair of the bipartisan HBCU Caucus, I was proud to celebrate America’s more than 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, their historical accomplishments, and their immense contributions to the American economy and workforce.
Much of the success we have seen so far in spreading educational opportunities and excellence has come through HBCUs, and I look forward to strengthening them in the years to come.

Safeguarding Liberty
Too many public institutions of higher learning are silencing the voices of faith-based student groups. I believe that freedom of speech isn’t just a nice idea —it’s a core American ideal we must guard.
I joined Senator James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Congressman Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) in introducing the Equal Campus Access Act of 2023to ensure that religious student organizations will not face discrimination on college campuses. Protecting American principles and constitutional rights is vital to sustaining our republic.

It’s Time to Rein in Federal Spending
The Biden administration’s student loan cancelation initiative would transfer up to $20,000 in student loan debt per borrower onto taxpayers and will cost Americans a total of $195 billion by the time the most recent Biden extension is set to expire in August of 2023. This inflationary and regressive policy comes at the expense of hardworking Americans.
To take this burden off of taxpayers, I joined Senate Republicans in introducing a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution, which would overturn this proposal and protect the hard-earned dollars of South Carolinians.

The #SCSweetTea on Daring To Change
Sixty students from Blackville, South Carolina’s Macedonia Elementary-Middle School graduated from the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program! This program is vital in placing mentors and speaking guidance into students’ lives at a pivotal time. When I was a disillusioned teenager, mentors turned my own life around, and I am excited to see the D.A.R.E. program continue to transform lives.
