Dear Friend,

Protecting Religious Freedom In America's Child Welfare System

For many years, faith-based child adoption and foster care agencies have helped countless children and families in need. As the national shortage of foster homes grows, leaving thousands of kids without a home, it has never been more important to protect the right of people of faith to provide a loving home to children in need.

Inexplicably, the Biden administration has taken steps that would limit the ability of faith-based child welfare providers to provide services to children and families in need. To remedy this unjust discrimination and maximize benefits to thousands of children in need, I introduced the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act. We must protect religious freedom and support the incredible work these organizations do on behalf of children and families.

Calling Out the Biden Administration's Failed Leadership on Iran

Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists’ attack against Israel on October 7th emboldened other Iranian proxies who have increased their attacks against U.S. personnel in the region. According to the Department of Defense, Iranian-backed groups have conducted over 70 attacks against our personnel in the last two months. Instead of imposing maximum economic pressure on Iran to curb this behavior, the Biden administration recently chose to extend a sanctions waiver that would allow Iran to access billions in assets.

That’s why I led my Senate colleagues in sending a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, to demand answers on the administration’s dangerous lack of strategy in dealing with Iran. I will continue to make it crystal clear to the Biden administration that our Iran policy must focus on countering Iranian aggression, not enabling the regimes dangerous destabilizing activities.

Backing Sound Financial Policies
Image

This week, as Ranking Member of the Senate Banking Committee, I questioned the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on why his agency is still putting forth policies that dictate what families can and cannot have simply by regulating products out of existence and pricing people out.

Additionally, the agency’s burdensome regulatory agenda continues to reduce access to credit, limit consumer choice and stifle innovation in the financial sector. That’s plain wrong. The best way to protect consumers and provide economic opportunity is to encourage competition and set clear rules of the road. I will continue to call on Director Chopra to do just that.

Protecting Our Free Markets

For nearly three decades, the United States has led the world in making sure a free market and open internet fuels economic prosperity and pushes back against authoritarian regimes including China. Unfortunately, the U.S. Trade Representative’s to the World Trade Organization recent decision to reverse these commerce policies has handicapped America’s free market bulwark against Communist China and others.

Now is not the time to back down from supporting democratic free market principles. That’s why I joined Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and my Senate colleagues in calling on President Biden to reinstate these policies. We must protect America’s global economic leadership and defend open markets.
