Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week, I had the honor of returning to my alma mater to celebrate its inauguration of new leadership. Charleston South University was a special part of my life that helped shape my educational and spiritual journey. I have no doubt it will do the same for the next generation of South Carolinian leaders. I also celebrated Women’s History Month by reflecting on the remarkable women who have shaped my life and our nation’s history. Through my work to stand with our ally Israel against Hamas and enforce the law at our southern border, I continued my efforts to keep Americans safe, uphold our national security, and project strength on the world stage. I am confident that with faith and commonsense solutions, we can ensure that our great state and the American people have the opportunity to flourish.

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

A Charge to Charleston Southern University

Watch my full remarks here.

It was a privilege to start this week by delivering the “charge to the president” at the inauguration of the new Charleston Southern University President Dr. Keith Faulkner. I graduated from CSU in 1988, and was honored to be back encouraging a new generation of leaders and celebrating the truth that all things are possible. Charleston Southern University has prepared countless young people for life’s challenges, opportunities, and triumphs, and I pray God continues to bless its mission to be a beacon of light for our state.

Celebrating Women’s History Month

Watch my video celebrating positive and powerful women here.

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, I spent this week honoring the women who have helped set my path, highlighting barrier breaking women from South Carolina, and discussing how we can continue empowering female leaders to shape our nation’s future. I was also proud to celebrate four Senate colleagues — Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) — who are paving the way for women to achieve their dreams.

Whether it’s my grandmother and my mother, or my Senate colleagues and trailblazing South Carolinian women like Mary McLeod Bethune, it is time to celebrate the women who teach us that all things are possible.

Standing With Israel

Earlier this month, the Senate’s top Democrat gave an unprecedented speech on the Senate floor where he called for elections to be held in Israel. The speech came as progressives continue their calls on our greatest ally in the Middle East to back down from its fight against Hamas.

The United States must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel, not undermine the right to defend itself from brutal terrorists. That’s why I introduced a resolution supporting Israel’s right to self-defense and condemning interference in its sovereign electoral process. We must show the world that we will always stand with Israel as it seeks to confront and eradicate the threat of terrorism.

Sending a Message to the President

Last month, nearly 200,000 illegal immigrants crossed the open border and at least 10 million individuals have illegally crossed into the U.S. since President Biden took office. This president’s open border policies have allowed for the largest border invasion in American history, provided a safe harbor for people who violate our nation’s laws, and put American lives and our national security at risk.

This week, I joined my Senate colleagues in introducing a resolution denouncing the Biden administration’s open border policies. We cannot have a secure border and a safe America with a president who refuses to enforce the laws on the books.

Fox News: Tim Scott labels Schumer's call for Israeli leader change 'electoral interference'

I’m sharing the following story from Fox News detailing my work to stand with Israel and warn Senate Democrats against undermining our greatest ally in the Middle East.

Reporting for Fox News, Julia Johnson writes, “Scott's resolution would reiterate Israel's right to defend itself against attacks as its war against terrorist group Hamas continues in Gaza, and it would condemn calls for the country to hold elections amid the war. ‘Hamas is the reason the conflict started on October 7th and the reason it continues today,’  Scott, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a statement to Fox News Digital. ‘Israel has every right to defend itself from this brutal terrorist organization that raped and murdered innocent civilians and continues to hold more than 100 people hostage — including several American citizens.’”

Palmetto Pride

This week, I’m proud to celebrate Harry Thompson – a South Carolinian and Purple Heart recipient. The Purple Heart is one of the highest honors the military awards, and it was fitting that Sumter's Purple Heart Chapter selected Mr. Thompson as its Patriot of the Year for 2024. Mr. Thompson is an American hero and a worthy recipient of this honor!
