This week, I continued to fight for America’s national security interests amid President Biden’s routine foreign policy failures. As I met with the families of several victims of Hamas’s October 7th attack, I was reminded of the unmistakable truth that a ceasefire will only empower Iran and its proxies to rebuild for another attack. During a Senate Banking Committee hearing, I continued to hold the Biden administration accountable for their failure to restrict Iran’s access to funds it could use for terrorism.

In addition to tackling threats overseas, I focused on championing diabetes legislation, which provides vulnerable populationsthe vital tools to manage their healthcare battles. We must work together to safeguard the American people from challenges–both at home and abroad. Image

Dear Friend,

For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

The Week In Review

Fighting to Bring Every Hostage Home

Image

This week, I met with the families of several victims of Hamas’ October 7th attacks and listened to their stories of unimaginable devastation. As the President of the United States continues to undermine Israel with calls for a ceasefire, we must remember Hamas started this war and violated the last ceasefire. There is no good reason to create daylight between America and Israel by giving Hamas more time to prepare for further attacks and not demanding the release of all the remaining hostages. We must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel and do all we can to bring every hostage home.

Protecting U.S. National Security

Watch my opening remarks here.

During this week’s Senate Banking Committee hearing with U.S. Department of Treasury Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo, I pressed the Biden administration on its disturbing pattern of sanctions relief to adversarial nations that jeopardize U.S. national security interests. I also questioned the Biden administration’s focus on progressive policies in its engagements with China over addressing real threats to the American people, such as the nationwide fentanyl crisis. As the Committee’s top Republican, I have led efforts to restrict Iran’s access to the funding it could use to facilitate terrorism. I have also pushed for the passage of my FEND Off Fentanyl Act, which targets the illicit fentanyl supply chain. I will continue to call for the Biden administration to take decisive action to bolster America’s national security and protect the safety of American families.

Building Quality Healthcare

Over 500,000 South Carolinians—many of them in vulnerable communities—are struggling to manage diabetes. According to the Centers for Disease Control, there is a higher prevalence of diabetes within minority populations. Diabetes affects 16.4% of Black adults, 14.9.% percent of Asian adults, and 14.7.% of Latino adults – compared to 11.9.% of white adults.

During National Minority Health Month, I led three of my colleagues in introducing the PREVENT DIABETES Act, which provides access to virtual programs under the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program, which helps prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. We must ensure everyone in the Palmetto State—regardless of race, background, or zip code—has the support they deserve to live a long and healthy life.
