250 YEARS OF AMERICA

July 3, 2026

Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

Opportunity has been at the heart of America since our nation's founding 250 years ago. As we celebrate, we reflect on the enduring values that have defined our country from the very beginning: faith, freedom, and opportunity. Founded as one nation under God and dedicated to the ideals of liberty, America has always been a place where hard work and determination make the American Dream possible. I wish everyone across the Palmetto State a safe, joyful, and blessed Fourth of July.

Happy Independence Day from Team Scott!

The Week in Review

Protecting American Crop Producers

American crop production should not be undermined by foreign markets. I joined my colleagues in urging U.S. Trade Ambassador Jamieson Greer to emphasize the importance of protecting home-grown crop and domestic producers as he works to reauthorize the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Recently, American crop producers have experienced unsustainable pressures due to an increasing volume of foreign products unfairly flooding our markets. It is not only essential the United States remains competitive in the specialty crop sector for our national security, but also to make sure Americans have access to high quality, domestically grown food.

Supporting Mental Health On College Campuses

Mental health across our colleges and universities is an issue that should be supported at every level of government to ensure students are given access to the proper resources to thrive. I reintroduced the Enhancing Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Through Campus Planning Act to make sure the federal government is working with universities to support students by creating and implementing a plan to improve mental health and prevent suicide. Education is the key to opportunity in America, and this legislation emphasizes the importance supporting students beyond the classroom.

Cherishing American Citizenship

American citizenship is a privilege, not a commodity. The recent Supreme Court decision to allow birth tourism practices to continue in the United States both undermines and exploits our laws. I am introducing legislation to end this practice. Obtaining American citizenship should not be used as a business profit or purchased as a gateway into our country. As we celebrate 250 years of America it is important to recognize the privilege and honor it means to be a citizen of this great nation.

This week, the Columbia VA Health Care System and Regional Office collaborated on hosting a Freedom 250 Celebration. The celebration embraced the theme, "Honoring Service, Celebrating Freedom, and Building the Future, "where veterans, families, elected officials, and members of the community gathered to celebrate the semiquincentennial of our nation. This event commemorated a historic milestone and showed gratitude to all who served in the United States Armed Forces and defended the freedom of our great nation!

Senator Tim Scott working to make sure college students have mental healthcare access

Senator Tim Scott is partnering with other ranking members to make sure students in college have the mental healthcare they need, when they need it.

Senators Scott and Blumenthal are re-introducing the legislation to prevent suicides and make sure students have quality care available to them. ABC Columbia spoke to Sen. Scott about how important this is specifically to the University of South Carolina. The plan is called the “Enhancing Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Act.”

It still will need federal agencies like Health & Human Services along with the Department of Education to get it passed. One federal official said ‘The data is clear. This is a key point in completing college degrees’.
