As America mourns the loss of a statesman and one of the Senate's strongest voices, I mourn the loss of a dear friend. Lindsey Graham was not just a colleague I had the privilege of serving the great state of South Carolina alongside, but a man who never hesitated to work with anyone in pursuit of what he believed was best for our nation. Lindsey’s story was one of the American Dream. Despite setbacks, he committed his life to serving others, including in the U.S. Air Force, and fought in the halls of Congress to keep our nation safe and secure. His decades of service, dedication to South Carolina, and unwavering commitment to our country leave behind an enduring legacy of courage, conviction, and patriotism. Lindsey, you will be greatly missed.

Welcoming Senator Darline Graham

Lindsey always said one of his proudest accomplishments was not an election won or a bill passed, but seeing the person his sister, Darline, became. Lindsey and Darline had an inseparable bond, losing both of their parents at a young age, with Lindsey ultimately adopting Darline. Despite the hardships, just like her brother, Darline has lived a life of public service, including as commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. I look forward to working alongside her to continue Senator Graham’s commitment to keeping Americans safe.

Keeping Affordability A Priority

Federal agencies must be held accountable to the American people and remain focused on the missions Congress gave them. Policies in Washington affect everyday life for South Carolinians, from mortgage payments to the ability of small businesses to grow. The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee held a hearing focused on the Federal Reserve’s responsibility to promote a strong and stable economy. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh was questioned on the Fed’s efforts to keep prices stable, support employment, and restore public confidence. As Chairman of the Banking Committee, I made clear that when the Fed stays focused on its mission, families are better positioned to save, invest, buy a home, and live their version of the American Dream.

Protecting Consumers And Preserving Access

Protecting consumers, respecting the rule of law, and maintaining access to affordable financial products are core responsibilities of our federal agencies. Acting Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Russ Vought testified before the Senate Banking Committee about respecting the limits of the agency’s authority and promoting competition and choice. The Biden administration’s government overreach left families bearing the brunt of higher costs, fewer loans, and limited choices. Consumers are best protected through competition, choice, clear rules, and lower costs, and I will continue working to hold bad actors accountable while ensuring families have access to the financial products and services they rely on.

This hurricane season, Duke Energy is supporting first responders by providing grants for nonprofits and government agencies across South Carolina. The Duke Energy Foundation is awarding $500,000 to over 30 organizations through the 2026 Helping Emergency Response Organizations (HERO) Grant Program. These grants provide resources for first responders and help ensure communities across the Palmetto State are better prepared for severe weather with stronger shelters, safer roadways, and enhanced hospital and EMS capabilities.

Sen. Tim Scott reflects on Graham's legacy of bipartisanship, foreign policy & friendship

As lawmakers and world leaders continue mourning the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott is remembering his longtime colleague not only as a policymaker but as a friend who worked to bridge political divides.
