This Week:

Hampshire County Regional Job Fair

Since October 2015, I have been honored to co-host more than 30 job fairs across the state. My next job fair is in Romney on Thursday, May 17 at the Romney Fire Hall, 175 South High Street, from 11  a.m. to 3 p.m.

Commonsense Connections Week

My office will launch its tenth “Commonsense Connections” Week beginning this Friday, May 18 and ending Friday, May 25. I believe in retail government - bringing the government directly to our citizens, hearing their concerns and finding the best possible common sense solutions to the issues that matter to them. The customer comes first in business, just as the citizens should come first in government. That is what ‘Commonsense Connections’ is all about – my staff travels to every corner of the state and meets with our constituents to hear about the personal challenges they are facing and their ideas of how to move our country forward, and then I take their ideas to Washington.

On the Road

Recovery Point in Charleston

This week, I stopped in Charleston for a tour of Recovery Point with the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Ben Carson. This outstanding residential recovery facility is making a tremendous difference in the fight to end substance abuse.

Welcoming Qatar Officials to West Virginia

It was a privilege to welcome Qatar officials to West Virginia to tour the West Virginia National Guard’s 130th Air Wing and meet with state officials to discuss development and planning.

This partnership between West Virginia and Qatar proves what we as West Virginians already know – that the West Virginia National Guard is the most skilled and professional force in the country. I appreciate Brig. Gen. Yousef Al Kuwari, Col. Mohamed Al Manai, Col. Khalid Al Naimi, and Ms. Sarah El-Zeini for visiting and allowing me to show them all our beautiful state has to offer. I enjoyed working with the Emir of Qatar and the West Virginia National Guard to secure the State Partnership Program. The military and economic partnerships that West Virginia and Qatar will build together will be beneficial to all.

Mountwest Community & Technical College Graduation

It was an honor to speak to our next generation of leaders as they celebrate this outstanding milestone in their lives.  Congratulations again, 2018 Mountwest CTC Graduates!

Kanawha County Drug Court Graduation

I was so proud to congratulate the graduates of the Kanawha County Drug Court Program last week. These individuals have worked so hard and overcome so much to make a better life for themselves and their families. Together we are making an impact on the drug abuse epidemic, and every drug court graduation in our beautiful state is a victory.
